Genk vs Celta Vigo Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Genk and Celta Vigo will square off at the Luminus Arena on Thursday night for the second-leg of their Europa League quarter-finals tie, with both sides looking to build on their recent victories in their domestic championships. Genk managed a 0-3 victory on the road at Kortrijk in their Jupiler League, Europa League play-off group thanks to goals from Ruslan Malinovsky, Omar Colley and Bennard Kumordzi. On the flip side, Celta Vigo picked up a 0-3 victory on the road at Granada last time out thanks to goals from Jozabed, Marcelo Diaz and Claudio Beauvue. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Genk have been impressive in front of their own fans throughout this Europa League campaign, conceding just two goals in eight European fixtures. On the flip side, Celta Vigo have won their last three Europa League games by the same 2-0 scoreline. The first leg ended with five goals scored, so I’m expecting another entertaining game with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

Genk Preview

Genk were on a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions prior to their 3-2 defeat at Celta Vigo in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-finals tie. Actually, the Belgians took the lead in the 10th minute, through Jean-Paul Boetius, but they conceded three goals until halftime. They were unable to salvage anything from that game despite the fact that Thomas Buffel pulled one back in the 67th minute. However, Genk bounced back with an impressive 0-3 away victory at Kortrijk in group B of the Belgian Europa League play-offs. Genk have been impeccable throughout the playoffs, as they currently sit on top of the Group B table with maximum points after the opening three games. The most impressive fact is that Genk have kept a clean sheet in each of their three group fixtures so far. Genk have been a strong side on home soil over the past six months, losing just twice in their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. They are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak at home, conceding just three goals in the process. Furthermore, Genk are undefeated in eight European home fixtures this season, winning seven and drawing once against Gent in the previous round. In addition, the Belgian outfit have only conceded two goals in their eight European home fixtures this season.

Celta Vigo Preview

Celta Vigo, on the other hand, were on a two-game losing streak prior to their hard-fought 3-2 home win over Genk last Thursday. They were one-goal down after just 10 minutes, but bounced back with three goals until halftime with Pione Sisto, Iago Aspas and John Guidetti all getting on the scoresheet for Eduardo Berizzo’s side. In addition, Celta Vigo followed this up with a 0-3 win on the road at Granada in La Liga at the weekend. However, Celta only sit in 10th spot in the La Liga table with 44 points under their belts after 31 rounds, already nine points off the European places. Celta Vigo looked very prolific in front of goal over the past few weeks, having scored at least two goals in four of their last five competitive fixtures. Conceding has been Celta Vigo’s biggest problem throughout this La Liga campaign as they hold one of the worst defensive records in the division, as they allowed 51 goals in 31 league outings. Os Celestes’ away form over the past three months has been a complete mixed bag with five defeats, four wins and one draw in their last ten away games across all competitions. The most impressive thing is that Celta have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four away games across all competitions. Celta looked good on the road in the Europa League recently, having won their most three recent games by the same 2-0 scoreline.
