Fulham vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides who finished in the play-off positions last season and will be looking to secure automatic promotion this time. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Fulham picked up a third successive point as they battled out a 0-0 draw with Leeds at Elland Road last time out. The game was low on chances with the London team failing to create a single goal-scoring opportunity. Sheffield Wednesday also drew their second game in a row as they were held 1-1 at home to Sunderland on Wednesday night. They were one behind after just four minutes but a sustained spell of pressure in the second-half ended when David Jones grabbed the goal. The Cottagers took four points off the Owls from their two meetings last season beating them 2-1 at Wednesday and drawing the home game 1-1. Neeskens Kebabo got a brace against the Yorkshire side last season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I cannot be siding with a Fulham side at such short prices though Wednesday are struggling to string a performance together so I would not be rushing to back them so I will look elsewhere for my bets. The three Wednesday games have produced a total of just five goals while the three Fulham matches have produced just four so I am surprised to see under 2.5 goals as the bigger priced of the two options so have a little interest in it. Neither of these sides have come flying out of the traps yet so I think it also looks worth an interest on the time of the first goal to come after 28:00.

Fulham Preview

Three games and three draws for Fulham means it is unclear what to make of one of the market leaders so far. This marks the start of a testing four game home run with Cardiff, Hull and Middlesbrough the next league visitors to Craven Cottage. At home, it is now three draws in a row for the Whites and just one defeat in their last 12. Each of their last 11 matches in front of their own fans has seen both teams find the back of the net. The London outfit are not seeing a lot of the ball currently with their 46.1% possession just the 21st best in the division. Sone Aluko and Floyd Ayite are both averaging over two shots per game though both have yet to find a league goal this season.

Fulham Team News

Lucas Piazon (unknown) and Marcus Bettinelli (hamstring) are not expected to feature here.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Wednesday are among a handful of teams still searching for the first Championship win of the season. Manager Carlos Carvalhal is already the subject of one or two disgruntled voices from Owls fans. On the road, an opening day defeat to Preston put to an end an impressive record of five league away games without defeat. Their last eight away matches have seen a total of just 12 goals. Sam WInnall and Gary Hooper are the only players for the Yorkshire outfit to have two or more shots per game average with the former having grabbed one league goal this season and the latter still waiting for his first.
