Fulham vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides who were heavily tipped for promotion. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Fulham had no League Cup action in midweek so last time they played was at the weekend when they suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Burton. Oliver Norwood got their goal that day but they could turn their possession dominance into goals. Middlesbrough were to Aston Villa in the League Cup in midweek and won 2-0 thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford (one penalty). In the league, they won a five-goal thriller with QPR at the Riverside Stadium thanks to a goal each from Lewis Baker, Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga. These two sides were in different divisions last season but did meet in the League Cup in a game that was won by Fulham 2-1 after extra-time.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The match betting odds suggest that there is little between the two sides and that seems an accurate assessment. Both teams have drawn a few lately so if you wanted to take one of the three options then the draw would be my favoured option but that bet is not the one I would recommend. Instead, I would recommend a negative stance on the time of the first team goal for both sides. Both teams tend to score the bulk of their goals later in the game and this could be a cagey affair between two sides tough to break down.

Fulham Preview

Eight games in ten points secured and just 14th in the league this has not been the start that the Cottagers would have hoped for. It has been a mixed bag lately with two wins, one draw and two defeats from their last five in the league. At home, they have played four times winning one, drawing two and losing one as well as going down in the League Cup. Three of the four have seen both teams find the back of the net with two of these ending in a 1-1 draw. 62% of their goals have come in the 15 minutes before the interval or before the end of the game. The average time of the first goal scored is the 53rd minute and the average time of the first goal conceded is 60th minute.

Fulham Team News

Lucas Piazon (broken leg) and Tom Cairney (knee) are doubts for this game.

Middlesbrough Preview

It has been a good start to the season for Middlesbrough who sit in seventh place with 14 points from eight games. They are now four league games without defeat winning two of these and drawing two. On the road, they lost their first two league games but since then have taken four points from their last two. At least one defence has kept a clean sheet in three of these four fixtures. Britt Assombalonga is their top league scorer this season with five goals three of which have come in their last three. 60% of their goals have come in the second-half while 50% of them have come in the final 30 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Adama Traore will miss the game through suspension while Rudy Gestede (thigh) and Martin Braithwaite (hamstring) are doubts.
