Fulham vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Fulham kick off the 2018-19 Premier League campaign with a derby against Crystal Palace, who have been able to avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth in recent campaigns. Palace finished closer to the top half of the table last season after having been close to the drop for much of the season. Fulham are back in the top flight after a four-year absence. The London outfit were last seen in the Premier League during the 2013-14 campaign.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Palace have been struggling against Fulham for more than a decade, as their last competitive victory over this London rival came in 2004. Especially when it comes to games at Craven Cottage, Palace have never been able to achieve success. The likelihood of a change in trend looks unlikely with Fulham having strengthened substantially over the summer. The Cottagers also had one of the best home records in the Championship with just two defeats suffered over 23 games. I would pick on a win for Fulham.

The strength of Fulham last season was a strong defence that barely allowed opposition a look in at goal – especially at home. Palace relied on home games in order to score more than 60% of their 45-goal tally last season. Away games are not a forte of the team and I would pick under 2.5 goals in this match.

Fulham Preview

Fulham could have begun the season at a disadvantage after having been promoted to the Premier League through the play-offs, but the intense transfer activity over the summer has helped offset the disadvantage. Slavisa Jokanovic has been allowed to splash the cash with the signings of Jean Michael Seri and Aleksandar Mitrovic. However, the manager has made it clear that Fulham still need a couple of players to strengthen some key positions. Even then, the strong business done during the summer makes Fulham quite competitive.

Fulham Team News

Alfie Mawson (knee) is the only injury concern for Slavisa Jokanovic, as he is set to return only in the second week of September from his injury.

Crystal Palace Preview

Palace have every reason to be concerned about the upcoming campaign, as the summer has been relatively quiet at Selhurst Park. Roy Hodgson has been able to bring in Cheikhou Kouyate but transfer rumours surrounding some key players like Wilfried Zaha never seem to disappear. Hodgson, though, will be pleased with the pre-season results after having picked up wins over the likes of Reading and Toulouse. Hodgson has made no secret that Palace’s primary objective is to avoid relegation once again. The ability to retain Zaha will go a long way towards ensuring Palace’s Premier League survival.

Crystal Palace Team News

Scott Dann (cruciate ligament) is the only injury concern for Roy Hodgson coming into the game.
