Fulham vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship fixture features two sides currently struggling for form. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Fulham became the only side to have lost to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in all of 2017 last time out. A 77th minute goal undid them in a game that they can have few complaints about the result. Barnsley continued their winless run although they did put to an end a five-game run of defeats with a goalless draw at Brentford. They did ride their luck a little according to the expected goals data but they have been unlucky on other occasions this season so they will feel they earned this point. The two meetings between these sides last season ended in victories for Fulham who won 2-0 at Craven Cottage and 4-2 at Oakwell. Scott Malone and Chris Martin netted in both games last season for the London side but have since moved on.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Fulham are far too short to be backing here despite the fact I think they will win the game the prices offer no value on a side who have won just three of 11. Barnsley are not really showing any sort of form that suggests they look value and so the match markets should be avoided. I like the look of the game to have under 2.5 goals with just two of 11 at Craven Cottage going over this margin. In addition, in just two of 11 this season in the league have the Cottagers scored two or more goals in front of their own fans. As such, backing them to go under 1.5 looks worth an interest especially with the way the Tykes set up at Brentford.

Fulham Preview

It is now two defeats in the last three for Fulham and just three victories in their last 11 which has them in 12th place. They have a mixed set of fixtures over Christmas and New Year with games against teams below them in Barnsley and Hull but also face sides above them in Cardiff and Ipswich. At Craven Cottage, they have won their last two and are unbeaten in three and have lost just once in their last nine. None of their last five and just two of 11 this season in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals. Three of their last four and five of their last eight have seen both teams fail to find the back of the net. Each of their last three and seven of the last nine the London side have netted have come in the first-half.

Fulham Team News

Neeskens Kebano (calf) and Floyd Ayite (hamstring) are doubts while Lucas Piazon (broken leg) is back in training.

Barnsley Preview

It is now just two points from their last seven for the Tykes a run that has seem them drop to just above the relegation zone in 21st. They will be boosted by news of a takeover this week and they do not have the worst run of fixtures over the holiday period with Preston in ninth their highest ranked opponent. Away from Oakwell, they have taken just one point from their last three though before that were four games unbeaten. Harrison Barnes has netted in three of the last six appearances away from home. The Yorkshire outfit are struggling for goals and have netted on just two occasions in their last seven matches. In each of their last four defeats they have been behind at both half-time and then again at full-time.

Barnsley Team News

Angus MacDonald (illness) and Lloyd Isgrove (knee) are back in training while Ryan Hedges (thigh) and Adam Jackson (knee) are out.
