Freiburg vs Borussia Dortmund Match Prediction

Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund meet on Saturday at the Schwarzwald-Stadion as part of match day three of the Bundesliga. Freiburg come into the match off the back of a 4-1 loss away to RB Leipzig. Their opponents BVB find themselves in good form, after defeating Hertha Berlin last time out at home 2-0. Freiburg Preview

Freiburg have not lived up to the high expectations that their successful season last term required. It was always going to be a huge ask for them to follow that up, but they have so far struggled to look anything like that team. A 0-0 home draw against a struggling Eintracht Frankfurt side was how they began the Bundesliga. And before the international break, they lost 4-1 at RB Leipzig. They had taken a surprise lead in that match through Florian Niederlechner only to be pegged back by two goals from Timo Werner and one each from Willy Orban and Bruma, all of which came in the second half, to see them blown off the pitch. They were absolutely dominated on the day, only keeping 35% of the ball in the match and registering just two shots on goal and will be expecting similar against BVB.

Freiburg Team News

Center forward Florian Niederlechner will be out of the match due to an injury sustained a couple of weeks back, and that is a huge miss after he's played so well thus far for them. Defensive midfielder Nicolas Hofler will miss out due to a suspension dating back to the last time out.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

Borussia Dortmund had an interesting summer transfer window to say the least, but it has done little to muddy their belief that they can go out and do well in the season. They have kept three clean sheets in all three competitive matches far, including their DFB Pokal win. They began their Bundesliga campaign with a 0-3 win at Wolfsburg. They followed that up with a 2-0 home win over Hertha Berlin before the start of the international break. It was a banner day for Nuri Sahin out of central midfield. He assisted on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 15th minute goal, and then he would add his own in the 57th minute to see them to all three points yet again.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Peter Bosz will be without winger Marco Reus, fellow winger Andre Schurrle, left back Raphael Guerreiro, right back Erik Durm, and center midfielder Sebastian Rode due to injuries. Christian Pulisic will be coming back from America, so he might not be ready to feature from the off. This will be the first match since the sale of Ousmane Dembele, though he hadn't featured for them.
