France vs Luxembourg Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

France will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the World Cup qualifying group A table when they welcome Luxembourg at the Stadium Municipal on Sunday night. France picked up a comfortable 4-0 home win over the Netherlands on Thursday night thanks to a brace from Thomas Lemar and two other goals from Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe. Meanwhile, Luxembourg produced one of the biggest surprises of the previous World Cup qualifying round on Thursday night as they beat Belarus 1-0 at home over, with Daniel Da Mota scoring the winner just after the hour mark. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It’s a one-sided fixture and France should be able to score a couple of goals here especially after they managed to put four past the Netherlands on Thursday. France hold the better offensive record in the group, while Luxembourg have the worst back line. In addition, France netted at least three goals in each of their last three home games across all competitions. Furthermore, France have won their six home meetings with Luxembourg across all competitions, scoring 26 goals in this term.

France Preview

The Euro 2016 finalists, France, clinched a 3-2 home win over England in a friendly fixture back in June after losing 2-1 in Sweden with four days before. However, they looked impeccable on Thursday night as they beat the Netherlands 4-0 at home, with Thomas Lemar scoring a brace. This means that France now sit at the top of the group A table with 16 points under their belts after seven rounds, three points clear of second-placed Sweden, who suffered an unexpected 3-2 defeat in Bulgaria. Although they drew against Belarus and lost once against Sweden, France still hold the best offensive and defensive records in the group, scoring 15 goals and conceding just five. At home, France have only lost once in their last 17 home fixtures across all competitions while winning 15. The French are currently on a three-game winning streak at home, scoring at least three goals in each of these. Furthermore, France have won their six home meetings with Luxembourg across all competitions, having scored at least two goals in each of these. Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann have been France’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign, as they bagged three goals each.

France Team News

I’m expecting coach Deschamps to make some changes into the lineup for this clash, as Kurt Zouma, Adrien Rabiot, Florian Thauvin, Blaise Matuidi and more other players haven’t played a single minute against the Netherlands on Thursday.

Luxembourg Preview

Luxembourg head into this tie high on confidence following their 1-0 home win over Belarus on Thursday, which was their first competitive victory in the last two years. They still find themselves at the bottom of the group table, but the most interesting fact is that they have scored more goals than 5th-placed Belarus. The minnows have found the back of the net on seven occasions in their seven group fixtures, including four from their top scorer Aurelien Joachim. The worrying fact is that Luxembourg haven’t won a single game on the road over the past five years, losing twelve and drawing four in this term. Furthermore, they have failed to keep a single clean sheet in the process and have allowed at least two goals in 14 of their last 16 away games across all competitions. Head-to-head, Luxembourg have lost all of their 14 meetings with France across all competitions, conceding at least two goals in each of these. However, they still managed to get on the scoresheet in their 1-3 home loss against France in the reverse fixture, with Joachim Aurelien scoring from the spot in the first half.

Luxembourg Team News

Luxembourg should have the same lineup as they had against Belarus as they looked pretty well on Thursday in their sole victory of this group.
