Fleetwood Town Preview

Fleetwood fell eight points adrift of the League One playoff places on New Year’s Day after promotion hopefuls Bradford strengthened their grip on 5th place with a 2-1 win at Highbury Stadium. Fleetwood went in ahead at the break, with midfielder Jack Sowerby handing them the lead, only for a second-half Bradford fightback to stop them in their tracks. Alex Gilliead pulled the Bantams back on level terms, before Shay McCartan scored the winner in the 63rd minute. It continued a trend for what has been a far from prolific home record for the home side, who have now lost three on the bounce at Highbury Stadium in League One, going five without a win in total. An away game may have suited Uwe Rosler’s men better, having won back-to-back games on the road in recent weeks, while both of their wins in this competition this season have come away from home, beating non-league opposition in Chorley and Hereford. This could also be the first time Jamie Vardy has returned to Fleetwood since leaving the club in the summer of 2012 for the King Power Stadium for £1m, after scoring 31 goals in 36 appearances in the Conference Premier.

Fleetwood Town Team News

Fleetwood boss Uwe Rosler will be unable to hand a debut to new signing Paddy Madden, who is cup-tied for this clash.

Leicester City Preview

Leicester City made an emphatic return to winning ways last time out, as Claude Puel’s side secured a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Huddersfield Town. Riyad Mahrez extended his recent purple patch in form - just in time for the opening of the January transfer window - with the game’s opening goal after 53 minutes, before Algerian compatriot Islam Slimani made the most of his first league start since September 9 by scoring the Foxes’ second. Marc Albrighton wrapped up the victory in stoppage time, as Puel saw his side remain in 8th place, pulling three points clear of Everton in 9th. Prior to the visit of Huddersfield, Leicester had gone five games without a win in all competitions in what was admittedly a difficult run of games, having faced the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool during that time. Leicester were dumped out of the FA Cup away to League One opposition last season, having lost 1-0 to Millwall at The Den, and will be wary of the threat complacency provides. Puel guided Southampton to the League Cup final last season, giving him pedigree in cup competitions in this country and will hope to make a return to Wembley with his new side.

Leicester City Team News

Defenders Danny Simpson and Wes Morgan are both missing with hamstring problems, while Jamie Vardy (groin) will face a late fitness test.
