FK Crvena Zvezda vs Arsenal Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

The top two teams of the Europa League group H table will be facing each other on Thursday afternoon, as Crvena Zvezda welcome Arsenal at the Stadion Rajko Mitic. Crvena Zvezda (commonly known in English as Red Star Belgrade) managed a hard-fought 0-1 away victory at FC Cologne last time out, with Richmond Boakye scoring the winner just after the half-hour mark. Meanwhile, Arsenal won 2-4 away at BATE Borisov thanks to a brace from Theo Walcott and two other goals from Rob Holding and Olivier Giroud. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Arsenal are hot favourites to win, but Crvena zvezda have been a strong side on home soil over the past five months, winning twelve and drawing two of their last 14 home fixtures across all competitions. Both sides have been involved in high-scoring affairs of late, so I think that both should be able to get on the scoresheet in this one.

FK Crvena Zvezda Preview

FK Crvena Zvezda have enjoyed an excellent run of form over the past two months, losing just once in their last eleven games across all competitions. They kicked off their Europa League group stage campaign with only a 1-1 home draw against BATE Borisov, but managed an unexpected narrow 0-1 away win at FC Cologne on matchday two. This leaves the Serbs in second in the group H table with four points after two rounds, just two points behind the group leaders and their Thursday’s opponents Arsenal. Crvena Zvezda last reached the group stage of the competition in the 2007/08 season, although they have lost all four games. Red Star Belgrade can count on their recent home record in the Europa League as they are currently unbeaten in six games, conceding just three goals in the process. Furthermore, the Serbs are currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, keeping ten clean sheets in this term. They head into this clash on the back of a two-game winning run across all competitions, scoring nine goals and conceding none in the process. Aleksandar Pesic has been the standout player for Crvena Zvezda in the Serbian Super Liga, scoring six goals in his twelve appearances.

FK Crvena Zvezda Team News

Branko Jovicic is missing through injury, but Vujadin Savic is back in training.

Arsenal Preview

On the other hand, Arsenal’s seven-game unbeaten streak across all competitions ended at the weekend as they lost 2-1 on the road at Watford in the Premier League, despite the fact that Per Mertesacker gave the Gunners the lead at halftime. This leaves Arsenal only in 6th position in the Premier League table tied on 13 points with other four teams, already nine points behind the current leaders Manchester City. The Gunners looked pretty well-organized at the back over the past month, keeping a clean sheet in five of their last eight competitive fixtures. Regarding their Europa League group campaign, Arsenal won both of their opening group H fixtures, beating the likes of FC Cologne and BATE Borisov while scoring seven goals in the process. The Gunners sit comfortably at the top of the group H table with six points under their belts after two games, just two points clear of the second-placed Crvena Zvezda. This is Arsenal’s Europa League group stage debut, although they managed to reach the UEFA Cup final in the 1999/2000 season. The bad news is that Arsenal have struggled for fluency on the road over the past two months, winning just once in their last five away games across all competitions. The most worrying fact is that the Gunners have failed to score in three of their most recent five competitive away fixtures.

Arsenal Team News

Danny Welbeck, Krystian Bielik, Santiago Cazorla, Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers are all missing through injury, but Gedion Zelalem and Laurent Koscielny are both back in training.
