Feyenoord vs PEC Zwolle Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Feyenoord will be aiming to close the gap at the top of the Eredivisie table when they welcome PEC Zwolle at the Stadion Feijenoord on Saturday night. Feyenoord managed a comfortable 0-4 away victory at AZ Alkmaar last time out in the Eredivisie thanks to a brace from Steven Berghuis and two other goals from Sam Larsson and Tony Vilhena. Meanwhile, PEC Zwolle won 3-2 at home over FC Groningen thanks to goals from Stef Nijland, Ryan Thomas and Youness Mokhtar. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It should be goals in this one as the last eight meetings between these two teams have seen more than three goals scored. I also fancy Feyenoord to get back to winning ways on home soil here as they have won 16 of their last 18 home fixtures across all competitions. In addition, Feyenoord have picked up victories in each of their nine home meetings with Zwolle across all competitions.

Feyenoord Preview

Feyenoord kicked off this 2017/18 competitive season brightly, but their recent form has been awful. The Rotterdammers have lost four of their last six games across all competitions, including back-to-back defeats at the hands of Manchester City and SSC Napoli in their Champions League group stage campaign. This leaves Feyenoord at the bottom of the group F table, three points behind the second-placed Shakhtar Donetsk. Regarding their Eredivisie campaign, Feyenoord suffered an unexpected 0-2 home loss at the hands of NAC Breda three weeks ago, but they bounced back with an amazing 0-4 away win over AZ Alkmaar prior to the International break. They still sit in second in the Eredivisie table with three points fewer than the current leaders PSV Eindhoven and just one point more than their Saturday’s opponents. In terms of goals, Feyenoord hold the joint best defensive record in the division with just six goals conceded in seven games, but they also managed to score a decent tally of 16. At home, Feyenoord were on a 15-game unbeaten streak in the Eredivisie prior to their 0-2 loss at the hands of NAC Breda in their most recent home league fixture. Steven Berghuis has been impressive since his arrival from Watford this summer, as he is the Eredivisie’s current topscorer with six goals and one assist in his six league appearances.

Feyenoord Team News

Kevin Diks is a doubt, but Jan-Arie van der Heijden is still out through a calf injury. The good news is that both Kenneth Vermeer and Nicolai Jorgensen are both back in training.

PEC Zwolle Preview

On the flip side, PEC Zwolle have been one of the biggest surprises of this early part of the campaign as they managed an impressive tally of 14 points from the opening seven league games. They now sit in 4th spot in the standings tied on points with Vitesse and SC Heerenveen, just one point behind the second-placed and their Saturday’s opponents Feyenoord. Their performance throughout this campaign has been largely based on their prolific attack as they managed to score 13 goals in seven rounds so far this season. However, they have struggled a little bit at the back in this term, as they hold the second worst defensive record in top seven with ten goals conceded in seven games. Their recent away form has also been a problem as Zwolle have only won once in their last seven away games across all competitions. In addition, they have failed to score in three of their last five competitive away fixtures. Head-to-head, Zwolle only managed to win one of their last five meetings with Feyenoord across all competitions, but they did well to secure a 2-2 home draw in the most recent game against the Rotterdammers.

PEC Zwolle Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Zwolle ahead of this trip.
