Feyenoord vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Feyenoord welcome Manchester City to the Stadion Feijenoord on 13/09/17 as the Champions League group stages commence this midweek. Both enjoyed emphatic wins at the weekend with Feyenoord beating Heracles 4-2 away from home, as City thrashed title rivals Liverpool 5-0. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Feyenoord will be an extremely tough test for City, especially with their home record to fall back on. However, I’m expecting Pep Guardiola’s side to have too much quality for the Eredivisie outfit and they should claim the three points here.

Feyenoord Preview

Feyenoord made their victory over Heracles unnecessarily difficult at the weekend but eventually came away with three points after winning 4-2 on the road. The reigning Eredivisie champions were 3-0 ahead heading into half-time, following a brace from winger Steven Berghuis and an effort from Jean-Paul Boetius that left them seemingly home and dry. However, a brace from midfielder Reuven Niemeijer in the second half saw Heracles make their visitors sweat late on, but substitute Sam Larsson scored in stoppage time to put the game to bed. The result maintained Feyenoord’s perfect start to the season so far, being the only side in the Eredivisie to begin their opening four matches with a 100% record. They have scored twelve goals in doing so, averaging three a game and will look to trouble Manchester City defensively with home advantage on their side. This will be Feyenoord’s first appearance in the Champions League group stages since 2002, and it was an English side who last visited Rotterdam for a Champions League game, with Newcastle United running out 3-2 winners on that occasion.

Feyenoord Team News

Nicolai Jorgensen (hamstring) is a doubt after limping off after 22 minutes against Heracles. Kenneth Vermeer (knee) and Bart Nieuwkoop (hamstring) are ruled out for the hosts.

Manchester City Preview

Pep Guardiola could hardly have been more satisfied with the way his team put 10-man Liverpool to the sword at the weekend after Manchester City ran out 5-0 winners at the Etihad Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne’s superb pass allowed Sergio Aguero to coolly convert past Simon Mignolet, and once Sadio Mane was sent off for a high challenge on Ederson Moraes, the result became somewhat of a formality. Both Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane took full advantage of City’s numerical leverage as each player helped themselves to a brace each, as the team moved level on points with neighbours United in the table. Having perhaps failed to completely set fans imaginations alight in their first three games, this particular result and performance highlighted just how lethal City can be on their day and what a potentially unstoppable force they have in attack. After crashing out at the quarter-final stage to Monaco last season, City will be looking to improve their performance significantly this time around, especially away from home where they managed just one win from five games.

Manchester City Team News

Ederson Moraes (head) is set to miss out for City so Claudio Bravo will be given the nod to start in goal. Vincent Kompany (calf) is doubtful.
