FC Utrecht vs Willem II Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

FC Utrecht will be looking to continue their good run of form when they welcome Willem II at the Stadion Galgenwaard on Sunday at lunchtime for the second round of the new Eredivisie campaign. FC Utrecht kicked off the new Eredivisie campaign with a 0-3 victory on the road at ADO Den Haag last weekend thanks to a brace from Cyriel Dessers and another goal from Sander van de Streek. On the contrary, Willem II lost 1-2 at home at the hands of Excelsior, with Fran Sol scoring their consolation goal just after the hour mark. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Utrecht looked incredibly well-organized at both back of the field over the past two weeks and they should have enough to beat Willem II on Sunday. In addition, Utrecht have won their last nine home meetings with Willem II in the Eredivisie, keeping a clean sheet in six of these.

FC Utrecht Preview

FC Utrecht have enjoyed a good run of form over the past month, winning three and drawing four of their last seven games across all competitions. Utrecht won 0-3 o on the road at ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie last weekend and they followed this up with an amazing 1-0 home win over Zenit St. Petersburg in midweek in their first leg of the Europa League play-offs tie. They are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions, although they have only won three of their last ten games. Utrecht can count on their home form over the past five months, losing just two of their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Utrecht have won their last nine home meetings with Willem II in the Eredivisie, scoring at least two goals in seven of these. Head-to-head, Utrecht picked up victories in each of the last three games against Willem II in the Eredivisie, conceding just once in this term. Cyriel Dessers has enjoyed an excellent campaign with NAC Breda last season, and he already managed to score two goals for Utrecht in the first round. He has also delivered a great pass for Zakaria Labyad’s winner against Zenit St. Petersburg in midweek.

FC Utrecht Team News

Patrick Joosten and Chris Gurkan David are both doubts, but Anouar Kali is still out through an ACL injury. The good news is that Rico Strieder is back in training following his cruciate ligament injury.

Willem II Preview

On the flip side, Willem II have failed to win any of their last three friendlies of their pre-season campaign and kicked off the new Eredivisie campaign in a similar manner, losing 1-2 at home against Excelsior. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been their biggest issue of late as they have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four games across all competitions. Their form over the past five months has seen them win just three of their last 15 games across all competitions. Willem II barely avoided relegation last term and I’m expecting them to be involved in another relegation battle season as their activity on the transfer window this summer has been very low. Away from home, Willem II are winless in their last six away games in the Eredivisie, scoring just two goals in this term. Furthermore, they are winless in the last nine visits to the Stadion Galgenwaard since a 1-4 win back in April 2006. Fran Sol has been Willem II’s topscorer last season with 10 goals under his belt, and the 25-year-old striker has already found the back of the net in this early part of the season.

Willem II Team News

Katuku Tshimanga, Bartholomew Ogbeche and Asumah Abubakar are all doubts, but Dico Koppers and Bruno Andrade are both back in training.
