FC Porto vs Besiktas Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

FC Porto and Besiktas will square off at the Estadio Do Dragao on Wednesday night for their Champions League group G opener, with both teams looking to continue their recent good run of form. FC Porto enter the fray on the back of a comfortable 3-0 home win over Chaves in the Primeira Liga at the weekend thanks to goals from Vincent Aboubakar, Tiquinho Soares and Moussa Marega. Meanwhile, Besiktas only registered a narrow 0-1 victory at Kardemir Karabuk in the Turkish Super Lig, with Ryan Babel scoring the winner late in the game. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

FC Porto’s recent home form over the past six months has been almost excellent as they have won seven and draw two of their last nine home games across all competitions, conceding just twice in the process. Furthermore, they have only lost two of their last 15 Champions League home games, while Besiktas have only won three of their last twelve away games. Porto should be able to grab all three points in this one, but there is no much value in this bet as they are only 6/11 to win. Both sides looked pretty solid in front of goal over the past few weeks, so a high-scoring affair looks good value. Here are our two best predictions for this game:

Over 2.5 goals at 19/20

FC Porto to win and Over 2.5 goals at 7/5

FC Porto scored over 2.5 goals in 6 out of their last 10 games played

Besiktas saw over 1.5 goals in 9 out of their last 10 games played

FC Porto Preview

Porto have lost several key figures this summer, but they still managed to kick off their new Primeira Liga campaign in a perfect manner. They have picked up victories in each of their opening five rounds, but the most impressive fact is that they have scored twelve goals and conceded none in the process. This leaves them at the top of the Primeira Liga table tied on 15 points with the second-placed Sporting Lisbon, just two points clear of the third-placed Benfica. Porto qualified for the Champions League group stage after they finished as runner-ups to Benfica in the previous Primeira Liga season. This is Porto’s 7th consecutive group stage campaign and their 22nd overall. Last season, the Portuguese side reached the round of 16, losing 3-0 on aggregate at the hands of eventual finalists Juventus. Their Champions League home record over the past few years has been impressive as they have only lost two of their last 15 home games. At the moment, Porto are undefeated in the last nine home meetings across all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets in the process. Furthermore, Porto should feel confident ahead of this tie as they are undefeated in four meetings with Besiktas in Europe, winning three and drawing once in this term.

FC Porto Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for FC Porto ahead of this tie.

Besiktas Preview

After suffering a disappointing 1-2 loss at the hands of Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Cup at the beginning of August, Besiktas kicked off their new Super Lig campaign in a much better manner. They have won two and draw two of their opening four league games, scoring two goals in three of these. Besiktas have won the Super Lig title for the second year in a row last season and they are making a second consecutive appearance in the Champions League group stage. Last season, the Turks finished only third in their group and moved into the Europa League group stage, where they did well to reach the quarter-finals before losing on penalties at the hands of Lyon. This is the third consecutive season when Besiktas are facing Portuguese teams, and the most worrying fact is that they have failed to secure a win in those four games. Away from home, Besiktas have endured a mixed run of form in the Champions League over the past seven years, registering two defeats, three wins and two draws in their last seven away games. However, the Turkish team did well to collect four points from their three Champions League trips last year in the group stage, including a 3-2 creditable victory at SSC Napoli.

Besiktas Team News

Denys Boyko, Gokhan Gonul, Atinc Nukan and Gokhan Tore are all missing through injury, while is a doubt.
