FC Koebenhavn vs FK Vardar Skopje Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

FC Copenhagen will be aiming to overturn a one-goal deficit when they welcome Vardar at the Telia Parken on Wednesday evening for the second leg of their Champions League third round qualifying tie. FC Copenhagen only managed a nil-nil home draw against Hobro in the Superliga at the weekend. Meanwhile, Vardar did well to beat FC Copenhagen last week in the first leg of this tie thanks to a second-half goal from Balotelli Jonathan. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although they have struggled in front of their own fans recently, Copenhagen hold an impressive home record in the Champions League. Furthermore, Vardar are winless in eleven Champions League away games and have only scored once in their most recent three competitive away fixtures. I’m backing Copenhagen to win and I’m also expecting them to keep a clean sheet, as they managed to keep one in six of their last seven Champions League games.

FC Koebenhavn Preview

FC Copenhagen have endured a mixed run of form over the past two weeks, registering two draws, two defeats and one win in their last five games across all competitions. The most worrying fact is that Copenhagen have failed to score in each of their last two competitive games. Furthermore, Copenhagen have been awful on home soil over the past month as they have failed to win any of their last five home fixtures across all competitions. However, prior to this decent run of form, FC Copenhagen were on a twelve-game unbeaten streak, conceding just five goals in the process. In addition, Copenhagen have struggled at home against Zilina in the previous qualifying round, losing 1-2 at the hands of the Slovaks. The good news is that Copenhagen were undefeated in six Champions League home fixtures prior to their loss against Zilina, keeping a clean sheet in each of these. This includes fixtures against solid teams in the shape of Club Brugge, Porto, and Leicester. Andrija Pavlovic and Pieros Sotiriou are the players to watch for Copenhagen as both looked impressive in front of goal recently. APOEL’s former top scorer, Piero Sotiriou managed a brace against Randers in the Superliga last week, while Pavlovic managed a hat-trick against Zilina in the previous Champions League qualifying round.

FC Koebenhavn Team News

Rasmus Falk and Tom Hogli are both missing through injury ahead of this game.

FK Vardar Skopje Preview

The Macedonian league hasn’t started yet, but Vardar looked incredibly strong in the Champions League qualifiers. They beat Malmo 4-2 on aggregate in the previous round and followed this up with a narrow 1-0 home win over FC Copenhagen last week in the first leg of this third qualifying round. Prior to this good run of form, Vardar were on a terrible twelve-game winless streak in Champions League qualifying. In addition, Vardar are currently winless in six Champions League away games, losing three and drawing three in the process. Their recent away form has seen them win two of the last eight games across all competitions. Last season, the Macedonians were knocked out from the second qualifying round following a humiliating 3-5 aggregate loss at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb. Actually, they have never made it to this stage of the competition, so they will definitely look for a spot in the play-offs after their first-leg victory. Boba Nikolov has been Vardar’s standout player throughout the qualifiers as he managed to score two goals in Vardar’s three qualifying games.

FK Vardar Skopje Team News

Jaba Jigauri and Petar Petkovski are still out through injury so won’t be available for this trip.
