FC Cologne vs RasenBallsport Leipzig Match Prediction

By William Hall

Bottom of the league Cologne welcome 6th place RB Leipzig to the Rhein Energie Stadion this weekend in the Bundesliga. Cologne come into this game after picking up their first point of the season away to Hannover. Although this only takes their points up to 1 for the season, a point away to Hannover is very good and one they can build on. Leipzig were able to get their first win in three Bundesliga matches after seeing of Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at home. They will be looking to put back to back wins together for the second time this season. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cologne come into this one off the back of a confidence-building draw away to Hannover, but with RB Leipzig in town and scoring goals for fun, I think they will struggle to be able to cope. At the moment, the only way Cologne look as if they are going to pick up points is if they are winning games 1-0 or getting low scoring draws. Goals have dried up hugely since last season, and now I'm struggling to see where they are going to come from.

If RB Leipzig go and get an early goal this weekend, I will start to worry for the Cologne side as they will need to play more attacking football which will leave them gaps defensively. These two teams have only met twice in the past with RB Leipzig coming out on top in the reverse fixture and a 1-1 draw in this exact game last season. With the form both sides are on, I just can't see Leipzig taking any prisoners this weekend and putting a few past a struggling Cologne.

FC Cologne Preview

It's hard to say anything postie about the way Cologne have started the season. However, the draw away to Hannover last weekend is one they can take a lot of confidence from. It is never an easy place to go, and with the home side that day unbeaten all season, nearly everyone had written Cologne off. They will be hoping that result will be a turning point in their season, which is defiantly needed. A lack of goals is whats hurting Cologne this season, with the side scoring just two goals up to now. Neither of those goals have been scored by the strikers in the side meaning their confidence will be none existant at the moment. A win is desperately needed for Cologne at this stage, and if they can go on a run, they could get away from the bottom three very quickly with a lot of sides starting slow this season.

FC Cologne Team News

Cologne have six players out this weekend with Simon Xoller (muscle injury), Artjoms Rudnevs (nose surgery), Marcel Risse (meniscus injury), Marius Laux (unknown), Jonas Hector (ankle injury) and Nikolas Nartey (meniscus injury) all recovering from injuries.

RasenBallsport Leipzig Preview

RB Leipzig look as if they have dropped off massively from last season. They are struggling to put too many good results together but do come into this game off the back of a victory at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. Although the scoreline makes it seem it was a close game, in truth RB dominated the game for long periods of the match and should have one it by a couple more. 21-year-old Timo Werner has started the season where he left off, scoring five goals in six games. The young German striker got 21 goals last season and is on track to beat that this time around. RB Leipzig were able to finish 2nd last season and will want to try and match or beat it this time around. They will need a solid run of positive results if they are to catch the likes of Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

RasenBallsport Leipzig Team News

RB Leipzig have the five players who will miss the trip to Cologne with Fabio Coltorti (muscle injury), Jean Augustin (muscle injury), Kevin Kampl (ankle injury), Naby Keita (foot injury) and Timo Werner (illness) all out.
