FC Cologne vs Arsenal Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Bottom will face top in the Europa League group H, as FC Koln welcome the already qualified Arsenal at the RheinEnergieStadion on Thursday afternoon. FC Koln managed an impressive 5-2 home win over BATE Borisov last time out in the Europa League thanks to a brace from substitute Yuya Osako and three other goals from Simon Zoller, Sehrou Guirassy and Milos Jojic. Meanwhile, Arsenal only registered a nil-nil home draw against Red Star Belgrade prior to the International break. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It’s difficult to predict the winner despite the fact that Arsenal are the better team here and Koln have been terrible this season. That’s because Arsenal are already qualified and they will probably rest some key players for this clash. I think that both teams to score is a solid bet for this game.

FC Cologne Preview

FC Koln had a terrible competitive season so far, but they still managed somehow to pick up a 5-2 home win over BATE Borisov last time out in the Europa League. This was their first triumph in this group, but they are still bottom of the table, just two points behind the second-placed Red Star Belgrade. The last time out they faced Arsenal, Koln had a one-goal lead on matchday one, but the Gunners scored three second-half goals to win the game 3-1. Koln had one of the worst Bundesliga starts in history, having collected just two points from the opening twelve league fixtures. They are rock bottom of the league table with just two points under their belts and are already eight points behind safety. Koln are currently winless in twelve Bundesliga games, losing ten in the process. At home, Koln only managed to beat BATE Borisov in their last eight games across all competitions and have failed to score in three of these. In addition, the Germans have lost their three meetings with Arsenal across all competitions, conceding at least twice in each of these. Koln did well to score six goals throughout this Europa League group stage campaign, despite the fact they have only scored four in the Bundesliga.

FC Cologne Team News

Simon Zoller, Marco Hoger, Marcel Risse, Jonas Hector and Dominique Heintz are all out through injury, while Nikolas Nartey, Christian Clemens and Marius Laux are all doubts.

Arsenal Preview

Arsenal, on the other hand, have already booked their place in the round of 32 despite drawing nil-nil at home against Red Star Belgrade last time out in the Europa League. The Gunners sit at the top of the group H table with ten points to their name after four rounds, already five points clear of the second-placed Red Star Belgrade. With that in mind, Arsene Wenger can definitely afford to rest some key players for this game as they have a tricky trip to Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend. Arsenal managed an important 2-0 home win over Tottenham last time out in the Premier League, but they still find themselves in 6th spot in the standings, already twelve points behind the current leaders Manchester City. Away from home, the Gunners have endured a mixed run of form over the past three months, registering four defeats, three wins and a draw in their last eight competitive fixtures. Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott have scored two goals each throughout this Europa League campaign and I think that will both play on Thursday night.

Arsenal Team News

Rob Holding is a doubt, but Santiago Cazorla and Krystian Bielik are both missing through injury. The good news is that Calum Chambers and Gedion Zelalem are both back in training.
