FC Astana vs Villarreal Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

The top two teams of the Europa League group A table will square off on Thursday afternoon, as Astana welcome Villarreal at the Astana Arena. Astana managed a narrow 0-1 victory on the road at Maccabi Tel Aviv last time out in the Europa League thanks to a second-half goal from Patrick Twumasi. On the other hand, Villarreal won 0-2 at Slavia Prague last weekend thanks to a first-half goal from Carlos Bacca and an own-goal from Simon Deli. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Astana have really enjoyed a solid run of form on home soil over the past five months and they are also undefeated in 17 European home games. Meanwhile, Villarreal are yet to lose in the Europa League this season, so I expecting an entertaining affair with goals at both ends of the field.

FC Astana Preview

FC Astana kicked off their Europa League group A campaign with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Villarreal and a 1-1 home draw against Slavia Prague, but they bounced back with two consecutive wins over Maccabi Tel Aviv. They currently sit second in the group A table with 7 points after four rounds, just one point behind the current leaders and their Thursday’s opponents Villarreal. Astana and Villarreal are the group’s joint topscorers with seven goals each after four games. They should feel confident ahead of this tie despite losing 3-1 in the reverse fixture, as they are undefeated in 17 European home fixtures. Their home form over the past five months has seen them lose just once in their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. Astana have improved considerably since last year’s Europa League group campaign when they finished bottom of the table with just five points under their belts. Patrick Twumasi has been Astana’s most dangerous player throughout this Europa League group stage campaign, helping the team with three goals and one assist in his four appearances.

FC Astana Team News

Laszlo Kleinheisler is the only doubtful player for Astana ahead of this clash.

Villarreal Preview

Meanwhile, Villarreal have only lost twice in their last 15 games across all competitions, although one of those defeats was an embarrassing 1-0 loss against Ponferradina in the Copa del Rey. They are undefeated in four group fixtures at the moment, having won two and draw two in the process. The Yellow Submarines sit at the top of the group A table and will finish as group winners with another victory here. They did well to beat Astana 3-1 in the reverse fixture and they should feel confident ahead of this tie, as they are undefeated in six European away games, keeping three clean sheets in three of these. Their recent away form hasn’t been that good though, as they have only won two of their last seven games in all competitions. Head-to-head, the Yellow Submarines have won their three meetings with Astana in the Europa League, scoring at least three goals in each of these. Carlos Bacca has been Villarreal’s topscorer throughout this Europa League group stage campaign with two goals under his belt in his three appearances. Cedric Bakambu has also been in fine shape throughout Villarreal’s La Liga campaign so far this season, having scored eight goals, but he only found the back of the net once in the Europa League.

Villarreal Team News

Andres Fernandez, Ruben Semedo, Samuel Castillejo and Leonardo Suarez are all missing through injury, but Sergio Asenjo is back in training.
