Exeter City vs Lincoln City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Wednesday evening (19:45) fixture is a second-leg semi-final of the League Two promotion play-offs.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

These two sides met in the first-leg on Saturday afternoon and it was a tight encounter that ended in a goalless draw.  Lincoln saw more of the ball and created more chances but could not find a way past a well drilled Exeter side.

The previous meeting between these two came at St James’ Park came in August and it was the Grecians who won that one 1-0.  Reuben Reid got the only goal of the match in a tie low on chances.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The home side have won 15 of 23 at their own ground this season and at these prices I think should be backed to come out on top here.  Too much is being made of Lincoln as a strong Cup side which they are but the league table showed that Exeter are the better side over a long period and I back them to come out on top here.

If the Grecians are to net then their most likely source is Jayden Stockley who has already bagged 19 times this season and he looks worth a bet to be the first goalscorer.

Exeter City Preview

At St James’ Park, the Grecians have been strong this season winning 15 of their 23 drawing four and losing just four.  They have won four of their last five here and lost none of the last seven.

A key to their good home form has been a strong defence that has shipped just 19 times which is tied for the best record in the division.  They have though struggled for goals with their 34 netted only a middle level placing for League Two sides.

Jayden Stockley is a key player for Exeter and he has found the back of the net four times in his last five in front of his own fans.  Although they have a strong home defence they have kept a clean sheet in just two of their last nine at their own ground.

Exeter City Team News

The Grecians have no injury worries ahead of this fixture.

Lincoln City Preview

Away from Sincil Bank, it has been a mixed bag for the Imps this season with eight victories, seven draws and eight defeats.  Their last nine continues this form with three wins, three losses and three ending all-square.

A problem on the road has been lack of goals with only 26 netted from the 23 they have played.  Their defence is stronger and has shipped a joint-third highest total of 25 goals with eight clean sheets.

Ollie Palmer has found some joy on his travels of late bagging three times in his last seven appearances.  Four of the last five Lincoln have played on their travels have gone under 1.5 goals.

Lincoln City Team News

Lee Frecklington and Sam Habergahm (both unknown) are rated doubtful.
