Excelsior vs Vitesse Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Excelsior and Vitesse will be facing each other at the Van Donge & De Roo Stadion on Saturday night, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in the Eredivisie. Excelsior fought back from one-goal down twice to secure a 2-2 away draw at Heracles last time out prior thanks to goals from Luigi Bruins and Jinty Caenepeel. On the other hand, Vitesse lost 1-2 at home at the hands of AZ Alkmaar prior to the International break, with their consolation goal being scored by Tim Matavz soon after the hour mark. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Excelsior still managed to pick up one point from their last two league games despite playing against strong sides in the shape of Feyenoord and Heracles. They come into this tie high on confidence due to their recent head-to-head record over Vitesse, but they will face an Arnhem team who looked incredibly strong going forward in this early part of the campaign. Furthermore, Vitesse picked up wins in four of their last five visits to the Van Donge & De Roo Stadion and have netted ten goals in the process. It should be goals in this one as both sides have been involved in high-scoring affairs of late.

Excelsior Preview

Excelsior had a fine start to the new Eredivisie season by beating the likes of Willem II in the opening round. However, that was their only victory in this early part of the season, as they then lost 0-1 at home against Feyenoord and drew 2-2 on the road at Heracles in their most recent two league fixtures. Despite the recent struggle, Excelsior should feel confident ahead of this tie as they showed great fighting spirit last time out to come back from one-goal down twice to secure a 2-2 draw on the road at Heracles. They find themselves only in 11th spot in the Eredivisie table tied on four points with FC Groningen, but are just two points of the top seven. Despite their recent form, Excelsior looked much better on home soil over the past few months, having lost just three of their last 13 home games across all competitions. Actually, they were on a three-game winning streak at home prior to their 0-1 loss at the hands of Feyenoord in their most recent home league fixture. In addition, Excelsior beat Vitesse 1-0 in their most recent home meeting with the Arnhem club. Head-to-head, Excelsior are undefeated in the last three meetings with Vitesse in the Eredivisie, conceding just two goals in this term.

Excelsior Team News

Stanley Elbers, Lorenzo Burnet and Alessandro Damen are all doubts, but Mike van Duinen is still missing through injury. Furthermore, Anour Hadouir is out through suspension.

Vitesse Preview

Meanwhile, Vitesse registered back-to-back wins over NAC Breda and Roda JC Kerkrade in the opening two rounds of the new season, but they succumbed to a narrow 1-2 home loss at the hands of AZ Alkmaar prior to the International break. They still find themselves in a comfortable 4th position in the league table tied on six points with other four teams and just one point behind the third-placed PEC Zwolle. The Arnhem-based club looked impressive going forward in this early part of the campaign as they hold the second joint-best attacking record in the division, having scored eight goals in three games. Tim Matavz and Thomas Bruns have been Vitesse’s most prolific players in front of goal so far this season, as the pair bagged five goals between them. Away from home, Vitesse have endured a mixed run of form over the past seven months, registering eight wins, five defeats and two draws in their last 15 away games across all competitions. However, they did well to beat Roda JC Kerkrade 1-3 in their most recent league trip. Furthermore, Vitesse picked up victories in four of their last five visits to the Van Donge & De Roo Stadion, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Vitesse Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Vitesse ahead of this trip.
