Everton vs Watford Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Everton welcome Watford to Goodison Park on 05/11/17 in a must-win game for the struggling home side. Everton were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday, while Watford were 2-1 losers at home to Stoke last time out. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Watford have been exceptional away from home so far this season, while Goodison Park has appeared to be more of a fear factor for Everton themselves than opposition teams this season. In their current form, it’s tough to back Everton getting a win.

Everton Preview

To say Everton were eliminated from the Europa League with a whimper would be mightily generous to them following a 3-0 loss away to Lyon on Thursday night which summed up this season’s European campaign for the Toffees. Bertrand Traore scored the opening goal for the hosts in the 68th minute, before Houssem Aouar added a second. Morgan Schneiderlin was then sent off for a second yellow card, as Memphis Depay compounded their misery two minutes from time with a third. David Unsworth threw his hat into the ring to become Everton manager but has done little in his limited time to convince that he is the man for the job in the long-term. Currently without a win in eight games - losing three in a row since Unsworth took charge - what initially seemed like a slow start is beginning to look like something far worse, with the team winning just twice in the Premier League in ten games. The lack of goals is perhaps the biggest concern for this team, having found no natural replacement for Romelu Lukaku in the summer and the apparent plan for the goals to be shared amongst the team hasn’t at all gone to plan.

Everton Team News

Idrissa Gueye is suspended for the Toffees, while Seamus Coleman (broken leg), Michael Keane (thigh), James McCarthy (hamstring) and Nikola Vlasic (foot) are all doubts. Ramiro Funes Mori (knee), Ross Barkley (hamstring) and Yannick Bolasie (cruciate ligament) are long-term absentees.

Watford Preview

Watford’s defeat at home to Stoke City last weekend was arguably one of the shock results of the Premier League weekend, as the Potters ensured the Hornets would move down a place to 8th in the table. The game’s only goal came through Darren Fletcher, who volleyed in a corner routine that came straight from the training ground. It was a below-par performance overall from Watford, who also escaped a late scare when Charlie Adam missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0 when he struck the post with a gaping net in front of him. The defeat was also the first time in which Marco Silva has lost back-to-back games with his Watford team, having also been beaten 4-2 away to Chelsea the weekend prior where they really should’ve got a result. That loss at Chelsea was also the first time in which Watford were beaten away from home under Silva, who previously had won three and drawn one of his first four away games in charge. Everton look a wounded animal at this moment in time and Silva - who has been linked with the job at Goodison Park - will feel confident of conjuring a gameplan to stifle the Toffees.

Watford Team News

Defenders Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Prodl will hope to shake off hamstring problems to be fit in time for the weekend. Craig Cathcart, Nathaniel Chalobah (both knee) and Roberto Pereyra (hamstring) are all missing.
