Everton vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Everton come on the back of a topsy-turvy opening day match against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium. Marco Silva’s men were able to take the lead twice in the game through summer signing Richarlison, but goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez were able to produce a stalemate. Southampton struggled to take the handful of chances that came their way in the goalless draw with Burnley to the St Mary’s Stadium.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Even though Everton are missing a number of key players, they are likely to be confident knowing that Goodison Park has always been a tough place for visiting teams. Southampton head into the game without a victory in the last six visits to this ground, but they have taken two 1-1 draws in the last three visits. Southampton may need a lot of chances in order to find the back of the net, but Everton’s strong defence may not give them this luxury. Even with a number of crucial players expected to miss the game, Everton should have enough strength to get a victory.

The reason behind Goodison Park being a tough place for visiting teams is the strong defensive record possessed by the home team, who rarely provide space for the opposition. Marco Silva’s tactics will further enhance this element and I would pick under 2.5 goals in the match.

Everton Preview

Everton are missing a number of key players for this game and it certainly is likely to make an impact on the effectiveness of Marco Silva’s tactics. The manager also has to contend with a difficult set of results throughout pre-season and in the opening game of the campaign. However, Everton do have slender strength in depth in order to make their presence felt in the match. The absence of Jagielka will force a reshuffle at the back, but Everton do have a huge amount of experience at the back.

Everton Team News

Kurt Zouma (knock), Yannick Bolasie (stomach), Cuco Martina (stomach), Beni Baningime (ankle), and Andre Gomes (hamstring) are unavailable for the club. Richarlison (calf) is doubtful for the game, while defender Phil Jagielka is set to miss the next three matches due to suspension.

Southampton Preview

Southampton were unable to make their chances count in the game against Burnley. Despite having no less than seven shots on target, the Saints were unable to get anything out of the match. It will be a cause of concern for Mark Hughes, whose team did not necessarily set the scoring charts on fire even if he took over at over the club only towards the end of last season. Charlie Austin’s goals will be the biggest hope for Southampton in the 2018-19 season. Despite missing a major chunk of last season with injuries, Austin still managed to finish as the club’s top scorer.

Southampton Team News

Stuart Armstrong (knock) is the only player on the sidelines for Southampton.
