Everton vs Leicester City Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Everton will be aiming to continue their good run of form when they welcome Leicester City to the Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon in the FA Cup. Everton managed an impressive 3-0 home win over Southampton last time out in the Premier League, with Enner Valencia, Leighton Baines and Romelu Lukaku scoring the goals for Ronald Koeman’s team. Meanwhile, Leicester City were held to a goalless away draw at Middlesbrough last time out in the Premier League. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Everton Preview

Everton have only lost once in their last five games in the Premier League and come into this clash off the back of a three-game unbeaten run. During this run, the Toffees managed to beat Leicester 0-2 at the King Power Stadium thanks to two second-half goals from Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku. Everton had a very difficult spell of one victory in 11 games over a period of nearly three months, but they have improved significantly over the past two weeks. They are now in 7th position in the Premier League table with 30 points after 20 rounds, 11 points off the top five. Despite the recent struggle, Everton still hold one of the best defensive records in the division with just 23 goals conceded in 20 league games. Regarding their recent FA Cup record Everton reached the semi-finals of the competition last year, losing 1-2 at the hands of the eventual winners Manchester United. The Toffees can count on their home form ahead of this clash, losing just two of their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Everton were unbeaten in five home games in the FA Cup before their defeat against Manchester United in the semi-finals. Romelu Lukaku is a player to watch here, as the 23-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 11 goals in his 19 league appearances.

Leicester City Preview

Leicester’s recent form has been a complete mixed bag, registering four defeats, three draws and three wins in their last ten games across all competitions. They managed to beat West Ham 1-0 at home a week ago and followed this up with a poor goalless draw on the road at Middlesbrough last time out. This was their only third Premier League point of the season away from home for Leicester City. This makes it three draws and seven defeats on the road so far in ten away games in the Premier League this season. The Foxes have only won once in their last 15 away games in all competitions, and are currently on a ten-game winless streak. The good news is that Leicester are unbeaten in the last two visits to the Goodison Park, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Their recent record in the FA Cup has seen them winning just two of their last seven games in the competition, and are winless in the last three fixtures. Leicester are just six points clear of the drop zone in the league table, so I’m not sure if Claudio Ranieri will use his strongest lineup available for this trip, particularly because of Leicester’s poor away record. The good news is that Jamie Vardy is back into the squad following his suspension for the Christmas and New Year fixtures. The 29-year-old striker is Leicester’s joint topscorer with 5 goals under his belt in his 17 league appearances.

Everton Team News

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Bryan Oviedo, James McCarthy, Maarten Stekelenburg and Arouna Kone are all doubts, while Muhamed Besic and Yannick Bolasie are both missing through injury. The good news is that Matthew Pennington is back in training.

Leicester City Team News

Islam Slimani is the only doubtful player for Leicester ahead of this trip.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Everton have been much better on home soil than Leicester were on the road throughout this Premier League campaign, so I think they will pick up a victory in this game. Furthermore, Everton have improved considerably over the past few weeks, and they also hold a superior head-to-head home record over Leicester City.
