Espanyol vs Sevilla Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Espanyol were involved in a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Athletic Bilbao during the weekend. Gerard Moreno once again became the provider for the club’s opener, but his 29th minute goal was cancelled out by Inaki Williams in the 35th minute. Espanyol, though, had a mammoth 1-0 win over Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Sevilla endured more disappointment in the league after a 1-0 loss against Deportivo Alaves. Manu Garcia put the home team in front in the 52nd minute. Sevilla rarely looked like scoring and were even unable to take advantage of Ruben Duarte’s red card in the closing stages. Sevilla, though, were able to secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey match.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Espanyol will be on a high after beating Barcelona and learning about Flores’ decision to stay. Despite Sevilla getting a win over Atletico Madrid in the midweek cup action, they are up against an Espanyol outfit that is strong at the RCDE Stadium. Furthermore, Sevilla have lost their recent two visits to this ground. An Espanyol victory is on the cards.

Gerard Moreno has been in fine form and could have helped himself to more goals in the game against Athletic Bilbao. He has scored twice in the last three appearances against Sevilla. Moreno’s recent form has also been excellent with three goals in his last five games.

Espanyol Preview

Espanyol have the potential to go on a strong surge of form after receiving positive news in the form of Quique Flores deciding to stay at the club and an incredible victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. Concerns about the future of the manager might have led to a slipup, but Espanyol are now on the verge of moving into the top 10. So far in this January transfer window, there have been no arrivals at the RCDE Stadium while the likes of Pape Diop have left the club. Gerard Moreno continues to hit new heights with the striker now on to eight goals for the campaign.

Espanyol Team News

Pablo Piatti (discomfort), Sergio Garcia (discomfort), Jairo Morilla (Achilles tendon), and Adrian Lopez (meniscus) are the names unavailable for Espanyol.

Sevilla Preview

Sevilla still await for the first league victory under Vincenzo Montella, but there is no reason why the team cannot transfer the positive results in the cup competitions into the La Liga. Sevilla’s last league victory was more than a month ago, but they have had positive cup results – including the win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey. It looks highly unlikely that Sevilla will be able to overturn this disappointing league form in an away match, as the team has picked up only nine points from a possible 30 on the road this season. Wissam Ben Yedder is Sevilla’s top scorer so far with five league goals.

Sevilla Team News

Simon Kjaer (back), Nicolas Pareja (groin), José Mena Rodriguez (groin), Daniel Carrico (thigh), and Carlos Fernandez Luna (ankle) are the players unavailable for Sevilla.
