Espanyol vs Leganes Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Espanyol were able to open the La Liga 2017-18 season with a 1-1 draw with Sevilla. The home team took the lead in the 26th minute through a Clement Lenglet. However, Espanyol forward Leo Baptistao came up with a goal after just nine minutes to level the scores. Ever Banega was sent off late in the game. Leganes were able to secure a major boost in the opening game, as they beat Deportivo Alaves 1-0 at the Municipal de Butarque. Gabriel came up with the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, just seven minutes after Manu Garcia had missed a penalty for Alaves.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

There have been only two meetings between Espanyol and Leganes in the past. The former have been able to come out successful on both occasions. Despite being involved in a good 1-1 draw with Champions League chasing Sevilla, Espanyol will be after the three points in the home game against Leganes. Last season, Leganes were able to pick up only three wins on the road. In such a highly competitive game, Leganes’ disappointing away record may come to the fore. The club finished with three defeats and a draw in the last four away matches in the La Liga. I would back an Espanyol win. Leganes have failed to score in both games against Espanyol. Leganes only scored 14 goals in 19 away games last season, thus managing managed just one more away goal than relegated Granada. I would back Espanyol to keep a clean sheet.

Espanyol win – 1/1

Espanyol clean sheet – 11/10

Espanyol have conceeded only 4 goals in their last 4 games against Leganes

Leganes saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Espanyol Preview

Espanyol come into the game after having achieved a reasonably positive result in the opening game of the season. An away draw against a team (Sevilla) that finished fourth in the table last season away is a positive result, but Espanyol also had one of the best away records last season. The club had picked up seven wins and six draws from the 19 away games. In terms of points, Espanyol were able to register just two more points in the home matches compared to the away games. Leo Baptistao was a positive presence in the draw with Sevilla, and he is already off the mark for the campaign.

Espanyol Team News

Victor Sanchez (calf), Oscar Gaitan (cruciate ligament), Diego Lopez (knee), and Alvaro Vasquez (shoulder) constitute a lengthy injury list for Espanyol manager Quique Flores.

Leganes Preview

Leganes were able to capitalise on some of the misfortunes of Deportivo Alaves in order to register an opening day victory. A home win is a major boost to the club, as Leganes had a disappointing away record last season with only three wins from 19. Comparatively, the club had managed five wins from the home games. Leganes have brought in Dimitris Siovas and Ezequiel Munoz as the major signings of the summer, and have spent more than €5 million on these players. Last season, Leganes only scored 22 goals in the 19 home games.

Leganes Team News

Serantes (cruciate ligament), David Timor Copovi (muscle), Tito (unknown), and Dimitris Siovas (thigh) are the players unavailable for Leganes.
