Espanyol vs Girona Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Espanyol became the latest team to suffer at the hands of Eibar following a 3-1 defeat. Kike scored the opening goal after nine minutes, while Ivi doubled this lead in the 38th minute. Joan Jordan’s second-half penalty provided Eibar with the huge lead, although Sergi Enrich’s own goal did provide some consolation for Espanyol. Girona’s impressive unbeaten run ended with a 3-2 loss against Deportivo Alaves at home. Goals from Christian Stuani and Juanpe provided Girona with a 2-0 lead in the second half, but Ibai Gomez came up with a stunning hat-trick in the final 19 minutes to give Alaves a victory. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The loss against Deportivo Alaves is certainly a huge blow for Girona, who are coming up against an Espanyol outfit that happens to be strong at the RCDE Stadium. Quique Flores has seen his team win four out of the last six matches at home. Surprisingly, Girona are unbeaten in five away matches – including three draws. I would bet on a draw in this fixture. The strongest element of Espanyol has not been scoring goals, as the team has prided more on a strong defence. The Catalan outfit has kept three clean sheets in five home games. Even though Girona have been involved in games with more than 2.5 goals in the last four away matches, I would bet on under 2.5 goals in this match.

Espanyol Preview

Espanyol continue to struggle when it comes to away matches, as it was clearly depicted by the heavy defeat against Eibar. The team can at least look forward to a run of matches at the RCDE stadium. The next two matches are up against Girona and Las Palmas. Even though Espanyol have been struggling with the mild threat of relegation so far this season, victories in these games – as expected – could propel the team towards the top 10 places. Espanyol have so far managed all of their four league victories only at the RCDE Stadium. Gerard Moreno is the top scorer at the club with five for the season.

Espanyol Team News

David Lopez is the only player suspended for the game, while Sergio Garcia (groin), Adrian Lopez (meniscus), and Javi Lopez (calf) are also unavailable due to injuries.

Girona Preview

The strong surge of form experienced by Girona over the last month has helped the club remain devoid of any kind of relegation talk. Yet, the club are only seven points ahead of the bottom three places and this may not be a substantial advantage for a team that has just been promoted into the top flight. So far, Girona’s biggest advantage has been scoring goals with the team managing to find 18 goals. Girona has scored more goals than the likes of Athletic Bilbao and Leganes this season. A huge factor behind these goals has been Christian Stuani, who is the top scorer at Girona with an impressive eight goals so far.

Girona Team News

Bernardo (hamstring), Jose Aurelio Suarez (shoulder), Pedro Alcala (ankle), Olarenwaju Kayode (hamstring), and Marc Muniesa (ankle) are unavailable for Girona.
