England vs Slovakia Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

The top two teams of the World Cup qualifying group F will square off on Monday night, as England welcome Slovakia at the Wembley Stadion. England picked up a comfortable 0-4 victory on the road at Malta on Friday night thanks to a brace from Harry Kane and two other goals from Ryan Bertrand and Danny Welbeck. Meanwhile, Slovakia won 1-0 at home against Slovenia, with Adam Nemec scoring the winner with just nine minutes to go. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

England are hot favourites to win here, but they only picked up a narrow 0-1 victory in the reverse fixture. Slovakia are on a great run of form at the moment as they have won their last five qualifiers and have scored at least two goals in each of these. I’m expecting Slovakia to get on the scoresheet here and I’m also backing them to cover the handicap.

England Preview

England added another three points to their tally on Friday as they beat Malta 0-4. Despite the score, England have struggled against the minnows as they were unable to score in the first half and had to wait until the 86th minute or later before adding to Harry Kane’s opener. The Three Lions currently sit at the top of the group F table with 17 points under their belts after seven rounds, just two points clear of their Monday’s opponents Slovakia. This is England’s toughest challenge of the games that they have left, and three more points here would leave them sitting far more comfortably. England can count on their home form ahead of this clash as they are undefeated in four games across all competitions at the moment, scoring at least two goals in each of these. They have won their all three World Cup qualifiers during this campaign, conceding none in the process. Furthermore, England have won their both home meetings with Slovakia across all competitions, scoring six and conceding once in this term. Harry Kane has been England’s most prolific player in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign, having scored three goals in his three appearances, including his brace against Malta on Friday.

England Team News

Eric Dier is available for selection after serving his suspension on Friday. Harry Maguire and Nathaniel Chalobah are both vying for their senior cap, although it’s likely to come from the bench. Michael Keane, Daniel Sturridge and Jermaine Defoe were among the unused substitutes last Friday.

Slovakia Preview

Slovakia kicked off this World Cup qualifying campaign with back-to-back 1-0 defeats at the hands of England and Slovenia, but they bounced back with five consecutive victories since then. The Slovaks enter the fray on the back of a narrow 1-0 home win over Slovenia on Friday night, with Adam Nemec scoring the winner late in the game. They still second in the group F table, but they are now just two points behind the current leaders England. Scoring goals haven’t been a problem for Slovakia during this campaign as they are the group’s second topscorers with 13 goals under their belts after seven rounds. Adam Nemec has enjoyed an excellent World Cup qualifying campaign, as he is the team topscorer with four goals in his four appearances. Away from home, Slovakia have endured a mixed run of form over the past year and a half, registering four wins, five defeats and one draw in their last ten away games across all competitions. The good news is that Slovakia have picked up victories in their most recent two away qualifying games, scoring at least two goals in each of these. They are winless in five meetings with England, but they did well to secure a nil-nil draw in the Euro 2016 group stage and only lost 0-1 at home in the reverse fixture of this qualifying campaign.

Slovakia Team News

Jan Durica and Martin Skrtel both return after missing the Slovenia games through suspension.
