Empoli vs Bologna Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Empoli will be looking to continue their push for survival in the Serie A when they welcome Bologna at the Stadio Carlo Castellani on Sunday afternoon. Empoli lost 1-3 at home at the hands of Sassuolo last time out, with their consolation goal being scored by Manuel Pucciarelli. On the contrary, Bologna picked up a comfortable 4-0 home win over Udinese last weekend thanks to a brace from Mattia Destro, a goal from Saphir Taider and an own-goal by Danilo. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Bologna have already secured their Serie A status, but Empoli still need a couple of points from their remaining four games. Empoli are undefeated in their last three home meetings with Bologna in the Serie A, keeping a clean sheet in each of these. Although, both sides have been involved in high-scoring games recently and I’m expecting an open game with goals at both ends of the field.

Empoli Preview

Empoli’s three-game unbeaten streak in the Serie A ended last weekend as they were thrashed 1-3 at home by Sassuolo. Prior this defeat, the Azzurri managed back-to-back 1-2 victories over Fiorentina and AC Milan. This leaves Empoli in 17th spot in the league table with 29 points under their belts after 34 rounds, four points clear of the bottom three. The main reason for Empoli’s disappointing Serie A campaign has been their inefficient attack as they are the division’s lowest topscorers with just 23 goals scored in 34 league games. Levan Mchedlidze is the club’s topscorer with six goals under his belt, while Massimo Maccarone has helped the team with four goals and two assists in his 24 league appearances. However, Mchedlidze is still out with muscular problems, and he was also attacked by Empoli’s fans recently. On home soil, the Azzurri are winless in their last six home league fixtures, conceding at least two goals in four of these. The good news is that Empoli are undefeated in their last three home meetings with Bologna in the Serie A, keeping a clean sheet in each of these. Head-to-head, Empoli are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Bologna in the Serie A, conceding just two goals in this term.

Bologna Preview

Bologna’s form in the Serie A over the past two months and a half has been a complete mixed bag with five defeats, three wins and two draws in their last ten league outings. However, the Rossoblu come into this clash with renewed confidence following their impressive 4-0 home victory over Udinese in their most recent league fixture. Prior to this win, Bologna were on a four-game winless streak in the Serie A, but the most worrying fact is that they have failed to score in three of these. Despite this poor run of form, Bologna already secured their position in the top flight as they currently sit in 15th spot in the Serie A table, 13 points clear of the relegation zone. Similar to their Sunday’s opponents, Bologna have struggled to find the back of the net throughout the season, having scored just 35 goals in 34 league fixtures. Mattia Destro and Blerim Dzemaili have both enjoyed a decent Serie A campaign, as the pair bagged 17 goals and three assists between them. Simone Verdi has also played a vital part in Bologna’s performance throughout the season, helping the team with five goals and three assists in his 25 league appearances. Away from home, the Rossoblu have only won three of their last 15 away games across all competitions, and are currently on a three-game winless streak.
