Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund will be facing each other at the Olympiastadion Berlin on Saturday evening in the DFB Pokal Cup final. Eintracht Frankfurt reached this stage of the competition following a penalty-shootout win over Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Semi-finals. On the flip side, Borussia Dortmund managed an impressive 2-3 away win at Bayern Munich in the Semi-finals thanks to goals from Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Here at SBAT we provide a full service for you so why not check out some of our free bet reviews here.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Borussia Dortmund are huge favourites to win here, but I think that Eintracht Frankfurt should have a say here. Dortmund have lost their last three meetings with Eintracht Frankfurt on foreign soil while scoring just once. In addition, BVB haven’t played very good on the road over the past four months, winning just four of their last eleven away games across all competitions. This is BVB’s fourth DFB Pokal Cup final, and I’m backing them to win the trophy, but I’m also expecting Frankfurt to get on the scoresheet.

Eintracht Frankfurt Preview

Eintracht Frankfurt ended their Bundesliga campaign in a disappointing manner, but at least they managed to hold the runners-up RB Leipzig to a 2-2 home draw on the final day of the season. Eintracht Frankfurt were one of the best teams in the Bundesliga in the first part of the campaign, but they have been terrible since they return to action from the winter break. Actually, Eintracht have only won three of their 18 league outings in 2017. Frankfurt finished their Bundesliga season only in 11th, just five points clear of the bottom three. They are currently on a four-game winless streak since their penalty-shootout victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach in the DFB Pokal Cup Semi-finals towards the end of April. Regarding their DFB Pokal Cup adventure this season, Eintracht managed back-to-back wins over Magdeburg, Ingolstadt, Hannover 96 and Arminia Bielefeld prior to their success over Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Semi-finals. Although, it must be said that three of these victories were decided on penalties. This is their best performance in the DFB Pokal Cup since reaching the Final in 2006 when they were narrowly beaten 0-1 by Bayern Munich. Taleb Tawatha has been Eintracht Frankfurt’s most prolific player in front of goal throughout this DFB Pokal campaign, scoring two goals in his four appearances.

Eintracht Frankfurt Team News

Marc Stendera, Soares de Oliveira Andeson and Andersson Ordonez are all doubts, but Marius Wolf, Omar Mascarell and Makoto Hasebe are all missing through injury.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, haven’t had an extraordinary Bundesliga campaign, but they still finished in 3rd to seal their place in next season’s Champions League group stage. BVB were the division’s second ttop scorers with 72 goals under their belts after 34 rounds. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has enjoyed an excellent Bundesliga campaign as he was the league’s topscorer with 31 goals in his 32 league appearances. Dortmund head into this tie on the back of a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, including a 4-3 home win over Werder Bremen on the final day of the season. Regarding their DFB Pokal Cup campaign, BVB picked up victories over Eintracht Trier, Union Berlin, Hertha Berlin, Sportfreunde Lotte before beating their eternal rivals Bayern Munich in the Semi-finals. Actually, this is Borussia Dortmund’s fourth successive DFB Pokal Cup final, but they were beaten twice by Bayern Munich and once by Wolfsburg in the previous three finals. The last time when BVB managed to lift the trophy was in 2011/12 season when they beat Bayern Munich 5-2 in the final. The bad news is that BVB suffered defeats in their most recent three meetings with Eintracht Frankfurt on foreign soil, scoring just once in the process.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Jacob Larsen and Julian Weigl are still out through injury, while Mario Gotze and Marcel Schmelzer are both doubts. The good news is that Andre Schurrle is back in training following his ACL injury.
