Dijon vs Strasbourg Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Dijon and Strasbourg will be facing each other at the Stade Gaston-Gerard on Saturday evening, with both teams looking to put their Ligue 1 campaign back on track. Dijon enter the fray on the back of a creditable 3-3 away draw at Lyon last time out in Ligue 1 thanks to goals from Naim Sliti, Xeka and Cedric Yambere. On the other hand, Strasbourg threw away a one-goal lead following Joia Nuno Da Costa’s goal in the 10th minute to succumb to a 1-2 home loss at the hands of Nantes. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both sides looked vulnerable at the back throughout this early part of the season and both have seen more than two goals scored in the previous Ligue 1 round. Dijon have conceded six goals in three home league games so far this season, while Strasbourg allowed five goals in their most recent two league trips. I’m backing goals in this one, but I also think that Strasbourg can snatch a point from this trip.

Dijon Preview

Dijon have endured a terrible start to the new Ligue 1 season, having won just one of their opening seven league games. Their sole victory came at the hands of Montpellier a month ago, but then they have suffered two consecutive defeats along with their 3-3 away draw at Lyon last weekend. It might be early days, but they are already in trouble as they currently sit in 17th in the standings with just five points under their belts. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Dijon’s biggest problem throughout this early part of the campaign as they hold the worst defensive record in the division, conceding 16 goals in seven league games. The good news is that Dijon managed to find the back of the net in nine occasions this season, including two from their topscorer Benjamin Jeannot. At home, Dijon have endured a mixed run of form over the past five months, winning three, losing five and drawing two of their last ten home games across all competitions. They have only won one of their three home games in Ligue 1 so far this season, although their two defeats came at the hands of strong opponents in the shape of Monaco and Saint-Etienne. In addition, Dijon are winless in their last three home meetings with Strasbourg across all competitions, scoring just once in the process.

Dijon Team News

Julio Tavares and Wesley Lautoa are both out through injury, while Eden Massouema is a doubt. The good news is that Mehdi Abeid is back in training following his knee injury.

Strasbourg Preview

Similar to their Saturday’s opponents, the newcomers Strasbourg have also won just once in seven league games so far this season. Their sole victory came against Lille in the matchday two, although it must be said that Lille used three players in goal after their goalkeeper Maignan saw red in the second half. Since then, Strasbourg drew 1-1 on the road at Montpellier a month and a half ago and followed this up with four successive defeats. The most worrying fact is that Strasbourg have only scored once in their last four defeats in Ligue 1. The newcomers currently sit second from the bottom in the standings with just four points under their belts after seven rounds, just one point behind safety and their Saturday’s opponents. Scoring goals has been their main issue in this early part of the season as they have only netted five goals in seven league games, with all of their goals being scored by different players. Away from home, the newly-promoted Strasbourg are winless in their last seven games across all competitions, losing three and drawing four in this term. In addition, Strasbourg have failed to score in three of their four away games in Ligue 1 so far this season. The good news is that Strasbourg are undefeated in their last three visits to the Stade Gaston-Gerard, conceding just once in this term.

Strasbourg Team News

Dimitri Foulquier, Abdallah Ndour, Stephane Bahoken and Pablo Martinez are all doubts ahead of this trip.
