Dijon vs Montpellier Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Dijon and Montpellier will be facing each other at the Stade Gaston-Gerard on Saturday evening, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1. Dijon fought back from two-goals down to secure a 2-2 away draw at Rennes last weekend, with Chang-Hoon Kwon and Julio Tavares getting on the scoresheet for Olivier Dall’Oglio’s side. Montpellier also came back from behind to register only a 1-1 home draw against the newly-promoted Strasbourg thanks to a late goal from Daniel Congre. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It’s very difficult to separate these two sides at the moment as both looked poor in this early part of the season. Furthermore, Dijon have only won four of their last 15 home games across all competitions, while Montpellier picked up just two wins in their last ten away games. However, the last five games between these two sides have seen goals at both ends of the field so I think that will be the case in here as well.

Dijon Preview

Dijon have endured a mixed run of form towards the end of the last season, but they kicked off the new campaign in a terrible manner. They have suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Marseille and Monaco in the opening two rounds, and only a late penalty-goal from Julio Tavares brought them one point from their 2-2 away draw at Rennes last weekend. I was expecting Dijon to struggle in front of goal at the beginning of the new season after the departure of Lois Diony, but it seems that their main issue in this early part of the campaign is their defence. They have already conceded nine goals in the opening three league games, which is the joint worst defensive record in the division. They currently sit only in 18th spot in the Ligue 1 table with just one point under their belts, three points off their Saturday’s opponents. They are still lacking some quality in attack, but the good news is that their summer signing Chang-Hoon Kwon got on the scoresheet last weekend. At home, Dijon have only won four of their last 15 games across all competitions and are currently on a three-game winless streak. The good news is that Dijon are undefeated in the last three home meetings with Montpellier across all competitions, winning once and drawing twice in the process.

Dijon Team News

Anthony Belmonte, Benjamin Jeannot and Eden Massouema are all doubts, but Wesley Lautoa and Mehdi Abeid are definitely out through injury.

Montpellier Preview

Meanwhile, Montpellier’s form in this early part of the new season has been a complete mixed bag with one win, one defeat and one draw in their opening three league games. They still managed to collect four points from these three games, but their last weekend’s 1-1 home draw against the newcomers Strasbourg was a disappointing result. Scoring goals has been Montpellier’s main problem in this early part of the campaign as they have only scored two goals in three games. Furthermore, all of their games have seen few than three goals scored. Similar to their Saturday’s opponents, Montpellier have also sold their last season’s topscorer this summer, as Steve Mounie left the club for a move to Huddersfield Town in the Premier League where he already scored a brace. In addition, Montpellier looked terrible on the road over the past seven months, losing seven of their last ten away games across all competitions. Furthermore, they have failed to win in any of their last three visits to the Stade Gaston-Gerard since a 0-2 win back in January 2008. The good news is that La Paillade are undefeated in the last six meetings with Dijon across all competitions, scoring at least three goals in three of these.

Montpellier Team News

Pierrick Fito, Morgan Poaty, Jonathan Ligali and Ellyes Skhiri are all doubts ahead of this trip.
