Dijon vs Monaco Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Dijon will be looking for their first points in the new Ligue 1 season when they welcome the reigning champions Monaco at the Stade Gaston-Gerard on Sunday afternoon. Dijon suffered a 3-0 defeat on the road at Marseille last weekend, with Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men conceding all three goals in the second half. On the other hand, Monaco fought back from one-goal down twice to secure a 3-2 home win over Toulouse thanks to goals from Jemerson, Radamel Falcao and Kamil Glik. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Monaco have never lost a game at the hands of Dijon, and despite struggling at the back last weekend, I’m expecting them to keep a clean sheet here. Dijon looked terrible in front of goal over the past few weeks as they have failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five games across all competitions.

Monaco to win and Both teams to score - No at 15/8

Monaco Clean Sheet - Yes at 6/4

Dijon Preview

Dijon barely avoided relegation last term as they finished 16th in the Ligue 1 table tied on 37 points with the 17th-placed Caen, just one point clear of the drop zone. Their pre-season campaign has also been poor as they have lost three of their six friendly games. They did well to keep Marseille at bay for the first 45 minutes, but then they conceded three goals in the second half. I’ve said that before and I’ll say it again, Dijon will have a difficult time in finding the back of the net this season after the departure of Lois Diony. The 24-year-old striker has played a crucial role in Dijon’s survival in Ligue 1 last season, helping the team with eleven goals and eight assists. His departure has affected Dijon more than expected as they have failed to score a single goal in four of their last five games across all competitions. They brought in Benjamin Jeannot from Lorient as a replacement, but he failed to score a single goal last season. Dijon’s home form over the past five months has also been poor as they have only won three of their last eleven home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Dijon are winless in their five meetings with Monaco across all competitions, losing three in the process.

Dijon Team News

Wesley Lautoa is the only injury absentee for Dijon ahead of this clash.

Monaco Preview

Monaco  lost their Super Cup clash against Paris Saint Germain a fortnight ago, but they bounced back with a hard-fought 3-2 home victory over Toulouse in the opening round of the new Ligue 1 season last weekend. Leonardo Jardim’s men had to come back from one goal down twice to earn all three points, but they controlled the game since the first whistle. Although they have lost several key players this summer, Monaco still have enough firepower within their squad, particularly after the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Adama Diakhaby. However, Kylian Mbappe is still linked with a move away from the club, and it appears that Monaco’s rivals Paris Saint Germain are very close to obtaining his signature. They seem to have some problems at the back though, having conceded at least once in each of their last four games across all competitions. Away from home, the Monegasques have endured a complete mixed run of form over the past six months, registering four defeats, three draws and eight victories in their last 15 away games across all competitions. The good news is that Monaco are undefeated in their two visits to the Stade Gaston-Gerard, conceding just once in this term.

Monaco Team News

Pierre-Daniel Nguinda, Lacina Traore and Kylian Mbappe are all doubts, but Gabriel Boschilia and Loic Badiashile are both out through injury. The good news is that Adama Traore, Jordi Mboula and Kevin N’Doram are all back in training.
