Derby County vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides with hopes of going well in the Championship this season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Derby picked up a solid point on the road at Sunderland in their opening encounter on a Friday night. They drew that game 1-1 with Bradley Johnson netting for the Rams but a penalty just before half-time allowed the North-Eastern side back into the game. It was a great start to the season for Wolves who welcomed title favourites Middlesbrough to Molineux on the opening day. The Black Country side came out on top 1-0 thanks to a goal from Leo Bonatini. It was County who came out on top in their two battles last season winning the game at the IPro Stadium 3-1 and winning 3-2 at Molineux. These meetings tend to be high-scoring with five of six going over 2.5 goals and the one that did not still produced two goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The price on Wolves might shorten in coming weeks so this might be value in hindsight but right now I can not trust them at such short odds on the road especially against a solid Debry outfit. I don’t understand why the over/under 2.5 goals market is so highly favoured to the Unders happening. It is probably based on historical trends but Wolves have a number of attacking talents that could strike while Derby are no mugs in front of goal either and should be able to net at least once. Take the YES in the both teams to score market to go alongside your over 2.5 goals bet.

Derby County Preview

At home, Derby were tough to beat last season losing just four times in front of their own fans. A feature of these games was that their strong defence as they shipped just 20 times in 23 matches. Their draw with Sunderland last time out in the league seemed a fair result with the Rams seeing more of the ball but the Black Cats creating more dangerous chances. A feature of that game was that although Chris Martin played striker it was midfielders Bradley Johnson and Johnny Russell who found themselves in goalscoring positions more often. In the League Cup, the East Midlands outfit were leading 1-0 at Grimsby thanks to a Richard Keogh but a freak rain storm meant the match was abandonded after just 19 minutes.

Derby County Team News

George Thorne (broken leg) and Max Lowe (abdominal) are back in training while Jason Shackell (back) and Kyle McAllister (groin) are listed day-to-day. Darren Bent has been ruled out until late December with a hamstring injury while Matej Vydra is also out for an unknown period with the same problem.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

On the road, Wolves were strong last season with the eighth best road record in the division despite just finishing 15th in the table. They were one of just four sides to have scored more goals than they conceded on their travels in the Championship. Wanderers defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 on the opening day with them creating quite a few key chances from set-pieces. Ruben Neves had an interesting opening day with a lot of the ball and three shots but none hit the target. In midweek, they needed just one goal to see off Yeovil in the League Cup as they registered their second successive 1-0 victory. The goalscorer that day was Nouha Dicko who netted 14 minutes from time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Carl Ikeme is back in training after a hamstring while Kortney Hause will miss a few days with a knock. Ben Marshall has a hip injury, Helder Costa an ankle concern that should rule them out for a few weeks.
