Derby County vs Sheffield United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday early evening game (17:30) is live on Sky Sports and features league leaders Sheffield United on the road to eighth place Derby. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Derby made it back-to-back draws in their last fixture before the international break with a 1-1 at Loftus Road against QPR. A Jack Marriott goal gave them a point that flattered them with the London outfit the better side.

Sheffield United made it four straight victories and five unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over Hull in their previous match. A David McGoldrick gave them victory in a game they never looked in danger in.

The two meetings between these sides last season saw the Blades take four points with a 1-1 draw at Pride Park and a 3-1 home success. The home side has won just one of the last six head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Sheffield United have made a good start to the season but I do not think there is much to choose between them and  to see the home side as outsiders is a shock. I will be backing Derby to come out on top here with the comfort of the draw in the no bet market.

Mason Mount has two in his last four at Pride Park and with confidence high having been part of the England setup in midweek I think he looks a good shout to score at any time in this fixture.

Derby County Preview

The Rams have made a good start to life under Frank Lampard with five victories, three draws and just four defeats. They sit eighth but have a tricky run with each of their next three against sides in the top four.

At Pride Park, they have been tough to beat this season losing just once, winning three times and drawing twice. Just one of the last five and two of the six the East Midlands side have played in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals.

Derby have scored 15 goals this campaign with three goals each for Tom Lawrence and Mason Mount. Their defence has been good conceding just 13 times and keeping three clean sheets.

Derby County Team News

George Evans (fitness) might not be risked while Joe Ledley (back) is a doubt. Marcus Olsson (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades have made a great start to the season with eight victories, one draw and three defeats. They are the early pace-setters in the Championship table with a one point lead after just over a quarter of the campaign.

Away from Bramall Lane, no side has won more than the four they have won while they have not drawn any losing the other two. They are the third highest road scorers with ten goals a figure only bettered by Leeds (12) and West Brom (11).

Sheffield United are third highest scorers in the division with 21 goals and are led by Billy Sharp with seven while David McGoldrick has five. Their defence is the joint-fifth best in the division conceding 13 times and has kept a clean sheet in their last two.

Sheffield United Team News

Jake Wright (broken cheekbone) and Kean Bryan (unknown) are doubts.
