Derby County vs Reading Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Derby registered their fourth straight victory in midweek as they won 2-1 at Elland Road against Leeds. They were behind after just seven minutes but Sam Winnall netted twice in the last 18 minutes (one penalty) to secure the three points. Reading put in their best performance of the season in midweek as they defeated Nottingham Forest 3-1 at the Madejski. Jonathan Swift grabbed a brace while a Jordan Smith own-goal also helped in a game that also saw the return of influential forward Yann Kermorgant. The Rams are unbeaten in their last four against the Royals and took four points from their meetings last season. The game in the East Midlands ended 3-2 to the home side while the match in Berkshire ended 1-1.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Derby are a good side who are in good form but the price on offer looks too short to be getting involved with. The Royals showed signs of life with a good showing at Forest in midweek and I could not put you off the price in the match markets I think a few of the other markets offer better value. I like a play on Reading to score in the second-half as they have netted in each of their last five on the road and all six of these have come in the 45 minutes after the break while just five of the 15 the Rams have conceded has come in the first period. Yann Kermorgant might once again be left on the bench but he is a key player for the Berkshire side and I think he looks worth a little bit to be the last goalscorer especially as his team are finding ways to net late in games.

Derby County Preview

A run of four straight victories has moved the Rams into the top six and they look a side who will be involved in the promotion battle this season. Although they have a few tricky fixtures amongst them none of their next seven are against teams in the top eight which gives the Midlands outfit a chance to keep that run going. At the iPro Stadium, they have won four and drawn one of their last five taking 13 points in the process. Their recent home defence has been strong and they have kept four clean sheets out of the last five in front of their own fans. The 21 they have scored this puts them in the top third ranked attacks while the 15 they have conceded also means they have a top eight ranked defence. Derby have been ahead at half-time in three of their last four while just one of their last six has been goalless at the interval.

Derby County Team News

Johnny Russell (groin) is a doubt while Mason Bennett (knee), Darren Bent (hamstring) and Kyle McAllister (groin) continue to be long-term absentees.

Reading Preview

Victory in midweek put to an end a two-game losing run and was just their second in the last nine fixtures. They will hope to continue their momentum going into the international break and will be boosted by the return of influential forward Yann Kermorgant. Away from the Madejski, they have struggled with just two victories, one draw and four defeats. They have managed those two wins and the draw in their last five and have netted at least once in each of these ties. Four of their last five matches have seen a goal netted in the opening 20 minutes and each of their last four one netted in the last 20 minutes. The game in midweek with Forest marked the first-time Reading has been ahead at the interval this season.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring is closing in on a return while George Evans (thigh), Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (unknown), Tennai Watson (hamstring), Tiago Ilori (concussion) and Jordan Obita (cruciate) are out
