Derby County vs Nottingham Forest Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday lunchtime (13:15) live game is an East Midlands derby between two sides looking to climb the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Derby have drawn three successive games now with their last fixture before the international break a useful point away to Cardiff. The game ended goalless in a match that was low on scoring chances.

Nottingham Forest put to an end a run of three straight defeats with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United last time out. They were behind after just three minute but goals from Jason Cummings and Kieran Dowell put them ahead after 27 minutes and that was the end of the scoring.

The Rams are unbeaten in their last three meetings with the Tricky Trees winning two of these and drawing one. The game at the iPro Stadium last season ended 3-0 to Forest while it was a 2-2 when these sides met at the City Ground.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Forest and the draw double chance looks the way to play this as I don’t think there is much between these two sides. Forest have beaten Sheffield United and Middlesbrough this season while Derby have only beaten Preston of note with the other two victories coming against Hull and Bolton.

Daryl Murphy has netted in three of the last five in the league and got a brace for the Republic of Ireland against Moldova on international duty and he looks worth a play to net at any time in this game.

Derby County Preview

It has been a slightly disappointing season for the Rams who sat in 15th going into the international break with 13 points from ten games (though is one game lower than most have played). They are on a run of three consecutive draws and need to start converting some of these into victories. At home, they have two victories, one draw and one defeat from their four played with them going undefeated in the last three. They have conceded just three goals at their ground this season which is the joint third best record in the division. The East Midlands side would be as high as ninth if games were decided on just 45 minutes as they have been behind just twice at the interval. Nine of their 13 league goals have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Derby County Team News

Max Lowe (abdominal injury), Kyle McAllister (groin) and Mason Bennett (knock) will hope that the international break will help them return to fitness but Darren Bent (hamstring) and Jamie Hanson (calf) are still a few weeks away from a return.

Nottingham Forest Preview

It has been a solid if unspectacular start to the season for Forest who sat in 13th going into the international break with five victories, six defeats and no draws from their opening 11 fixtures. Each of their next six is against sides currently in the bottom half of the table so represents a good chance to pick up some points. On the road, they have lost three and won two of their first five matches with victories at Sunderland and Brentford. Their tally of eight goals puts them in the top eight road scorers but their ten shipped has them in the bottom eight for away defences. The Tricky Trees are a good side to watch for neutrals with the third highest goal total and an average of 3.09 goals per fixture. Be sure to take your seats early as nine of their 15 goals have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Nottingham Forest Team News

David Vaughan (groin) and Jamie Ward (calf) will hope that they can finally shake off their problems and return to full fitness for this tie.
