Derby County vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture is a game in hand for both teams who will hope to use it to climb closer to the top of the table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Derby climbed into the top six with a statement victory at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday beating Middlesbrough 3-0. Matej Vydra was the star of the show as he netted a hat-trick one of which came from the penalty spot. Ipswich are three without a victory as they lost 2-0 to Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon. Town can have few complaints about the result as they were second best on this occasion. The two meetings last season were won by the away side with the Rams winning 3-0 at Portman Road and the Tractor Boys coming out on top 1-0 at the iPro Stadium. It marks an unusual trend that has seen the visiting side win each of the last five head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Derby are the most likely victors here but the price is a little too short so it makes sense to try and enhance it somehow. Three of their last four at home have been won to nil so take an interest on this especially with the visitors missing key striker David McGoldrick. Those three Rams victories all ended 2-0 so take a smaller interest on this being the correct scoreline.

Derby County Preview

Seven points from their last three games and just one defeat in 11 has moved the Rams into the top six and has confirmed them has candidates for promotion. This fixture is the first of four they have at their own ground in their next five. At the iPro Stadium, they have three victories and one defeat from their last four with all the victories coming by the same 2-0 scoreline. Matej Vydra has three in the last four home matches and seven in the last eight at all grounds. None of the last eight Derby have played have gone under 1.5 goals with seven of these producing exactly two or three goals. In seven of their last nine victories the East Midlands side have been ahead at half-time and then again at the end of the match.

Derby County Team News

Bradley Johnson (rib), Jason Shackell (calf), Darren Bent (hamstring), Jamie Hanson (calf), Sam Winnall (ankle) and Mason Bennett (knee) are doubts while Kyle McAllister (groin) is a long-term absentee.

Ipswich Town Preview

No victory in three and just two in nine has seen Town slide down into the middle third and while still in the mix they likely do not have enough about them to finish in the top six this season. Four of their next five fixtures come against teams who are above them in the league table. Away from Portman Road, it is just four points from their last seven matches and three of these came against struggling Burton. Defensive issues are a problem on the road with no league clean sheet on their travels since February. Five of their last six have gone over 2.5 goals with the one that did not still producing a total of two goals. Just one of their last five Ipswich have played have been goalless going into the interval.

Ipswich Town Team News

David McGoldrick (groin), Tom Adeyemi (hamstring), Luke Hyam and Andre Dozzell (both knee problems) are all set to miss out.
