Derby County vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) Championship game from the iPro Stadium will be live on Sky Sports. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Derby went to the international break on the back of 3-1 defeat at Bramall Lane. They were two down in the first 39 minutes and a 90th minute Craig Bryson goal proved to be little more than a consolation. Hull might have found the two-week break came at the wrong time after they ran out impressive 4-0 victors at home to Bolton last time out. Jarrod Bowen grabbed a brace in that game while Adama Diomande and Kamil Grosicki got one each. These two sides did not meet last season but in the previous season the away side won both encounters and in fact three of their last four head-to-heads have been won by the visiting side.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to get too excited about the prices on offer here. Derby are struggling for goals so I would not want to take them at short odds though Hull do not exactly scream value so I would swerve match markets and look elsewhere for the bets. Hull are flying going forward and I think they look capable of scoring here and with the time of their first goal set at 70:00 this looks worth taking on. On the flip side, Derby are not firing at all yet so they might have to wait for that first goal so take on their time of first goal which is set at 48:00.

Derby County Preview

Five games into the season and it is seven points from Derby who have produced a mixed bag of two wins, one draw and two defeats. These results mean that they sit in 12th place in a tightly packed early table. Goals has been an issue for the Rams so far with just five from these fixtures with just one of these coming at their own ground. The defence has shipped a surprising high of seven goals with five of these coming on the road. Sam Winnall came in at the transfer deadline and if he can find the scoring form shown at Barnsley (before his move to Sheffield Wednesday) then he could be a perfect fit. Maikel Keftenbeld and Tom Lawrence should add some quality to the midfield with the latter hoping to add some much-needed creativity.

Derby County Team News

Max Lowe (abdominal injury) could be set for a return while Kyle McAllister (groin) is also closing in on coming back. Jamie Hanson (calf) is unlikely to feature while Darren Bent (hamstring) looks set to miss the remainder of the year.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers have also taken seven points from their first five fixtures with victories over Burton and Bolton, defeats from Wolves and QPR and a draw at Sunderland. They do not look the pre-season mess that many thought they could be and if things click could push on for the top six. The Yorkshire side are the top-scorers in the division this season with a record of 12 goals scored though they have shipped seven at the other end. This has given them a league high average of 3.8 goals per fixture with three of their five going over 3.5 goals. Hull were one of the busier sides ahead of the transfer window closing, they signed Jackson Irvine from Burton and Nouha Dicko from Wolves while completing a loan deal with Chelsea for Fikayo Tomori.

Hull City Team News

The Tigers will hope that the extensive injury list will be eased by the international break with Fraizer Campbell (thigh), Kevin Stewart (ankle), Ryan Mason (skull fracture) and David Marshall (ankle) close to a return. Those unlikely to feature are Moses Odubajo (broken knee cap), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Goebel Evandro (hamstring), Markus Henriksen (foot) and Will Keane (cruciate) are all long-term absentees.
