Derby County vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) fixture is a first-leg of the Championship promotion play-offs semi-finals.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Derby ended the season with a three-game unbeaten run including a final day 4-1 home victory over Barnsley.  The goals were shared around the team with one each for Cameron Jerome, Matej Vydra, David Nugent and Tom Lawrence as they booked their top six spot.

Fulham ended the season in disappointment as a 3-1 loss to Birmingham saw them miss out on automatic promotion.  A Tom Cairney goal was not enough as their 23-game unbeaten run came to an end.

The two meetings between these sides saw the London side take four points which includes a 2-1 victory at the iPro Stadium in March.  The first meeting came in November at Craven Cottage with honours even in a 1-1 draw.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given these two sides finished 13 points apart and that Fulham won here in March you can see why they are favourites to win the game and although the price is probably a little short for me I could not put anyone off backing the visitors.

Seven of the last eight Derby home games have seen both teams find the back of the net and with the Cottagers the top goalscorers on the road this season this looks a good bet.

13 of the 23 the London side played on the road were level going into the break and this looks worth an interest as neither side will want to give too much away in the opening exchanges.

Derby County Preview

The Rams have made the play-offs in two of the last four seasons losing in the semi-final one year and the final in the other.  They were last in the top division in the 2007-08 season where they recorded a Premier League record for lowest points.

At the iPro Stadium, they have been strong this season with the sixth best home record of 12 wins, five draws and six defeats.  Their 41 home goals were the joint third highest in the division while their defense was the eighth best.

Each of the last five Derby have played have seen both teams find the back of the net with four of these going over 2.5 goals.  Cameron Jerome ended the season with four goals in his last three and David Nugent had three in his last five.

Derby County Team News

Marcus Olsson (unknown), Ikechi Anya (calf), Kyle McAllister (groin) and Jonathan Mitchell (finger) are doubts while Sam Winnall (cruciate) will play no part.

Fulham Preview

The Cottagers are in the end of season play-offs for the second successive season with last season seeing them lose to Reading in the semi-finals.  The last time they were in the top flight was in the 2013-14 season where they had been since 2001-02.

Away from Craven Cottage, they were strong winning 12 games which was only bettered by champions Wolves.  No side scored more goals on their travels in the division than the London outfit while the road defence was the joint ninth best ranked.

Fulham ended the season in good form with just one defeat from their previous 24 Championship fixtures.  Aleksandar Mitrovic has been on fire with 12 goals from his previous 14 domestic starts.

Fulham Team News

Matt Targett (ankle) and Sheyi Ojo (unknown) are all doubts.
