Derby County vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) fixture features two of the sides in the mix for that second promotion spot behind leaders Wolves and is live on SKYTV. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Derby continued their strong form with a 3-0 road victory over Midlands rivals Birmingham. The Rams shared the goals around with one each for Johnny Russell, Matej Vydra and Andreas Weimann.

Bristol City will look to bounce back from a defeat last time out going down 1-0 at home to Norwich. The Robins can have few complaints as the Canaries created the stronger scoring chances.

The reverse fixture in mid-September at Ashton Gate ended in a comprehensive 4-1 victory for City. Cauley Woodrow, Bobby Reid (penalty), Jamie Paterson and Famara Diedhiou all netted one for the hosts with County having taken the lead through Matej Vydra (penalty).

Betting Tips and Predictions

It looks a tough came to call this with the Rams the deserved favourites as they are showing the better form than the Robins. Sheffield United picked up a point here in recent weeks and strong road form for Bristol City means that the win/draw/win market looks a tough one to call.

Three of the last four for the visitors have been goalless at half-time and this could be another tight one with a wait for a goal thus take NO team to score an early goal with the minutes set at 31:00

Derby County Preview

It is now eight games unbeaten for the Rams who are now in second place two above Cardiff in third and ten behind Wolves at the top. Three of their next are at their own ground and they must use this opportunity to keep the pressure on the top.

At the iPro Stadium, they have won three and drawn one in their last four with Ipswich the only side to win there in the last six. The nine home goals they have conceded is the joint-best record in the division along with Leeds.

The 44 goals County have scored this season is the second best attacking record in the Championship six behind Wolves. The 23 goals they have conceded is also the second best in the league again behind Wolves.

Derby County Team News

Bradley Johnson, Joe Ledley (both back issues) and Kyle McAllister (groin) are doubts.

Bristol City Preview

It is now five straight defeats in all competitions for the Robins and three in the league. They have dropped to fourth and defeat would put them eight behind their opponents in that race for the second automatic promotion spot.

Away from Ashton Gate, they have lost just one of their last 12 in the league though this defeat did come last time on the road to Villa. Three of their last five and six of their last eight on their travels have gone over 2.5 goals.

Nine of the last 11 goals scored in Bristol City league games have come in the second-half with four of these in the final 15 minutes. City would be as low as tenth if the table was decided on the scores after just 45 minutes.

Bristol City Team News

Callum O’Dowda (ankle) is listed as day-to-day while Milan Djuric (groin) is a few weeks away from a return.
