Derby County vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two of the promotion hopefuls in the Championship.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Derby were held to a goalless draw in midweek as they shared a point from a home encounter with Blackburn.  The result was harsh on the Rams who were the better side but could not find a breakthrough. Brentford were a short price to win on the road away to lowly Ipswich but despite taking the lead Neal Maupay had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw.  Although the Bees saw more of the ball the expected goals data suggest there was little to choose between the pair. The two meetings between these sides last season saw County take four points with a 3-0 home victory and a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park.  It means the East Midlands outfit have lost just one of their last seven against the London side.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford are favourites to win this game and while I believe they are the better team they have yet to win on the road this season so I could not be bringing myself to backing them though nor do I want to oppose them with Derby. Neal Maupay is in great goalscoring form and he looks the play here in the anytime goalscorer market. Jayden Bogle, was given a great licence to get forward in midweek and the youngster looks also too big to score at any time.

Derby County Preview

The Rams have made a decent start to the season with four victories, one draw and three defeats from their opening eight. They sit ninth in the table while the expected goals data believes they should be a little lower in 15th. At Pride Park, they have won two, drawn one and lost one this season with that defeat coming to Leeds (4-1). In each of their last three at their own ground the East Midlands outfit have kept a clean sheet. Just one of the last five that Derby have played in the league have seen both teams find the back of the net. It is also the same ratio for over 2.5 goals (just one of five) with their last two producing a total of just one goal.

Derby County Team News

Curtis Davies (hamstring) and George Evans (knee) are doubts while Marcus Olsson (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.  Tom Lawrence will miss the game through suspension.

Brentford Preview

The Bees have made a strong start to the campaign with four victories, three draws and just one defeat from eight. They sit third in the Championship table while the expected goals data feels they should be top. Away from Griffin Park, they have struggled a little failing to win any of four though three of these have ended drawn. Neal Maupay has netted three times on the road this season and eight times in total. Five of the eight league matches Brentford have had this season have seen both teams find the back of the net. Just one of the last four and two of the last seven involving the London outfit have gone over 2.5 goals.

Brentford Team News

Rico Henry (knee) and Emilano Marcondes (unknown) remain long-term absentees.
