Derby County vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture will have implications on the play-off race as fourth entertains fifth. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Derby coasted to a 3-0 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell last time out though the expected goals data suggests that they were flattered by the scoreline. They had a goal each from Tom Lawrence, Matej Vydra and Andreas Weimann to thank for the points. Aston Villa were held for the second straight game this time at home to Millwall in a game that ended goalless. The expected goal data suggests that in fact it was the Lions who were the stronger side and the hosts a little lucky to claim a point. The two meetings between these sides last season ended 1-0 to the hosts at Villa Park and scoreless at the iPro Stadium. Central defender James Chester got the only goal of these battles in 2016/17.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a tough game to call and if pushed I would go for the draw as the best option of the three but I prefer to look elsewhere for my bets than in the match markets. Derby have conceded just once in their last five while Villa have shipped just five in the last eight so this could be a low-scoring affair. NO in the both teams to score market looks an option and under 1.5 goals is also worth a play

Derby County Preview

It is now back-to-back victories for the Rams and four from their last five which means they sit in the top six of the table. They are in fourth one place and one point above their opponents here. At the iPro Stadium, it has been a mixed bag in their last four with victories over Burton and QPR but defeats to Ipswich and Reading. Just one of their last seven and two of their last ten in front of their own fans has gone over 2.5 goals. Both teams to score has failed to happen in any of the last five Derby fixtures while four of their last six have gone under 2.5 goals. Matej Vydra has 12 league goals this season and has netted six times in the last six.

Derby County Team News

Jason Shackell (calf), Darren Bent (hamstring), Jamie Hanson (calf) and Mason Bennett (knee) are doubts. Kyle McAllister (groin) is a few months away from a return.

Aston Villa Preview

It is five games unbeaten for Aston Villa though the last two fixtures have ended in draws. This marks the start of a tricky run of games with four of their next five coming against teams in the top eight. Away from Villa Park, they have gone four games unbeaten defeating Preston and QPR while drawing with Leeds and Birmingham. Just one of their last five on the road have gone over 2.5 goals. Their defence has been strong in recent times conceding just five goals in their last eight despite losing John Terry a few weeks ago to injury. Six of their last seven and eight of their last ten have produced a total of exactly two or three goals.

Aston Villa Team News

Gabby Agbonlahor (calf), Andre Green (hamstring), Mile Jedinak (shoulder), Jordan Lyden (ankle), Chris Samba (hamstring) and .Rushian Hepburn-Murphy are doubts. John Terry (broken toe) and Jonathan Kodjia (ankle) are long-term absentees
