DC United vs Real Salt Lake Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

DC United brought an end to a run of consecutive defeats with a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC. The game could have easily yielded a first win for DC United in more than a month, as the team took the lead through Kofi Opare in the 6th minute. However, the game witnessed a drastic change when Lloyd Sam received his marching orders just before half-time. Steven Birnbaum scored an own goal by inadvertently directing the ball into his own net in the second half to level the scores. Real Salt Lake were involved in the goalless draw with Houston Dynamo. Despite the game finishing without any goals, both teams had multiple opportunities over the 90 minutes.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The last victory for DC United was towards the end of June, and the team has gone through a run of six defeats and one draw in the last seven league matches. Yet, they have managed to win the last three home games against Real Salt Lake. After having experienced poor away form, Real Salt Lake have won the last two away games while they are unbeaten in the last five. I would go with a win for Real Salt Lake. Joao Plata has scored in three of the last five league matches for Real Salt Lake. He has scored in two of the last three games against DC United. I would go with Plata to score anytime in the game.

Real Salt Lake win – 2/1

Joao Plata to score anytime – 13/8

DC United Preview

The end to a run of seven consecutive losses in all competitions did not seem in sight for DC United in the game against Toronto, who were the table leaders in the Eastern conference. Yet, the club managed a surprise result against one of the favourites for the 2017 MLS Cup. The result does little to push DC United in touch with the rest of the table, but it arrests the slide. Manager Ben Olsen may feel that his team might have taken even a victory out of the game had it not been for the red card to Lloyd Sam. Luciano Acosta remains the top scorer at the club but with only four goals.

DC United Team News

DC United will be without Rob Vincent (meniscus) due to injury.

Real Salt Lake Preview

Real Salt Lake have been able to go unbeaten in the last five league matches, and it has been met with a rise in their league status. However, the club still remain six points behind the play-off places. Manager Mike Petke will know that his team has to come up with more of victories in order to close the gap on San Jose Earthquakes, who are sixth in the table while having played a game less than Real Salt Lake. The recent good run of form has seen Real Salt Lake’s defensive record improved slightly. The club now have the second worst defensive record after conceding 44 goals. Yura Movsisyan and Joao Plata are the top scorers with six goals each.

Real Salt Lake Team News

Petke has to deal with plenty of absentees with Chad Barrett (knee), Jordan Allen (knee), Matt Van Oekel (malleolar), Omar Holness (knee), and Ricardo Velazco (ankle) unavailable due to injuries.
