Darmstadt vs Schalke 04 Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Schalke 04 will be looking to build on their recent victory in the Bundesliga when they travel to the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor to take on Darmstadt on Sunday evening. Darmstadt were beaten 3-2 on the road at Ingolstadt despite the fact they had a 1-2 lead at halftime following a brace from Mario Vrancic. On the other hand, Schalke 04 won 4-1 at home over Wolfsburg thanks to a brace from Guido Burgstaller and two other goals from Leon Goretzka and Daniel Caligiuri. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Schalke are hot favourites to win despite the fact they have only won once in their last eight away games across all competitions. Although, they are undefeated in their Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor, winning two and drawing once in the process. I’m backing Schalke 04 to keep a clean sheet here as they have one of the best defensive records in the division, while Darmstadt only managed 19 goals throughout the season.

Darmstadt Preview

Darmstadt’s form over the past two months has been terrible as they have lost seven of their last eight league outings. Their sole victory during this run was a 2-1 home triumph over Mainz 05 back in the middle of March, but they have suffered four straight defeats since then. Their defensive line looked awful during this negative run, as they conceded at least two goals in seven of their last eight games in the Bundesliga. This leaves them on bottom of the Bundesliga table with just 15 points to their name after 28 rounds, already 14 points behind safety. They still mathematically survive the drop but they need a miracle to make up that 14-point gap with only six games left. Darmstadt have been awful at both ends of the field throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as they hold the both worst offensive and defensive records in the division, scoring just 19 goals while conceding 56 in 28 league fixtures. Their topscorer is Antonio-Mirko Colak with just four goals under his belt in his 21 league appearances. Darmstadt looked a little bit better on home soil recently, having won two of their last four home league fixtures. The bad news is that Darmstadt are winless in their three home meetings with Schalke 04 across all competitions, conceding at least two goals in two of these.

Schalke 04 Preview

Schalke 04’s two-game winless streak in the Bundesliga ended last weekend as they managed a comfortable 4-1 home victory over Wolfsburg. However, they returned to losing ways in midweek as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Ajax in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-finals tie. Schalke currently sit only in 10th spot in the Bundesliga table, four points off the European places. They badly need a victory here in order to have a chance to play in Europe next season, especially after they left the Netherlands with a 2-0 deficit after the first leg of their Europa League quarter-finals tie. Schalke 04 have struggled to find the back of the net throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as they only managed 37 goals in 28 league games so far this season. Their recent away form has also been a problem as Schalke have only won once in their last eight away games across all competitions. Actually, Schalke are currently on a three-game losing streak on the road, conceding at least two goals in each of these. The good news is that Schalke are undefeated in their three visits to the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor, scoring at least two goals in two of these.
