Darmstadt vs Mainz 05 Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Darmstadt will look to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga when they welcome Mainz 05 at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor on Saturday afternoon. Darmstadt were beaten 2-0 on the road at Werder Bremen last weekend, with Thorsten Frings’ men conceding both goals in the last 15 minutes of the game. On the other hand, Mainz 05 fought back from one goal down to secure a 1-1 home draw against Wolfsburg last time out thanks to a goal from Jhon Cordoba. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

This is a crucial game for Darmstadt, as a win here will keep their small chances for survival. Meanwhile, a defeat will seal their place in the 2.Bundesliga next season. They have a good chance here, as Mainz 05 have been poor on the road over the past few months, winning just once in their last eight away league fixtures. I’m backing Darmstadt to pick up at least one point in this one, but I’m expecting a low-scoring affair.

Darmstadt Preview

Darmstadt suffered their 3rd consecutive defeat in the Bundesliga last weekend, losing 2-0 on the road at Werder Bremen. They looked poor at both ends of the field throughout this poor run of form, conceding six goals and scoring just once in the process. Overall, Darmstadt have only won one of their six Bundesliga fixtures after the winter break. Darmstadt are rock bottom of the league table with just 12 points under their belts after 23 league fixtures, already eleven points behind safety. They are almost certain to relegate into the 2.Bundesliga and need a miracle to get out of the current position. Darmstadt holds both the worst offensive and defensive records in the division, having scored just 15 goals and conceded 45 in their 23 league outings so far this season. Despite their disappointing Bundesliga campaign, Darmstadt have been a little bit better in front of their own fans as their tally of just 12 points were collected in front of their own fans. Their sole victory in their last four home league fixtures was an unexpected 2-1 triumph over Borussia Dortmund in the middle of February. The bad news is that Darmstadt are winless in their three Bundesliga meetings with Mainz 05, losing two and drawing one in this term.

Mainz 05 Preview

On the flip side, Mainz 05 have endured a mixed run of form in this early part of the new year, registering three draws, two defeats and one victory in their seven league outings after the winter break. Mainz head into this clash on the back of a two-game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga, including a 1-1 home draw against Wolfsburg last weekend. This leaves Mainz just in 11th spot in the Bundesliga table with 29 points to their name after 23 rounds, just six points clear off the bottom three. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Mainz’s main issue as they hold one of the worst defensive records in the division with 38 goals conceded in 23 league outings. At the other end of the pitch, Mainz managed a decent tally of 32 goals this season. Stefan Bell, Jhon Cordoba, and Pablo De Blasis have been Mainz’s most influential players on the pitch throughout the season, as they bagged 12 goals and six assists between them. The bad news is that Mainz aren’t regarded as good travelers as they have only won one of their last eight away games in the Bundesliga. However, Mainz did well to pick up a 2-3 victory over Darmstadt in their most recent trip to the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor.
