Darmstadt vs Hertha Berlin Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Darmstadt and Hertha Berlin will be facing each other at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollfenalltor on Saturday afternoon, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga. Darmstadt were unlucky to lose 1-0 on the road at the champions Bayern Munich last weekend, as Halil Altintop missed a penalty kick with just four minutes to go. On the contrary, Hertha Berlin were thrashed 1-4 at home by RB Leipzig last time out, with their consolation goal being actually an own-goal from the visitors’ defender Rani Khedira. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m backing Hertha Berlin to get back to winning ways in this one as they need all three points in order to play in Europe next season. On the flip side, Darmstadt are already relegated into the 2.Bundesliga, so they have nothing left to play for. Although, I’m not expecting a high-scoring game, as both teams have struggled in front of goal throughout this Bundesliga campaign.

Darmstadt Preview

Darmstadt’s unbelievable three-game winning streak in the Bundesliga ended last weekend as they lost 1-0 on the road at Bayern Munich. This means that Darmstadt are already relegated into the 2.Bundesliga as they only managed to collect 24 points in their 32 league fixtures so far this season. Darmstadt’s away form throughout this Bundesliga campaign has been the main reason for their struggle as they have lost 15 of their 16 league trips, scoring just eight goals in this term. Their sloppy defence has also been a problem, as they hold the joint worst defensive record in the division with 59 goals conceded in 32 league games. The good news is that Darmstadt have been playing much better in front of their own fans over the past three months, winning four of their last six home fixtures in the Bundesliga. Although, Darmstadt have suffered defeats in both of their home meetings with Hertha Berlin across all competitions. However, the most worrying fact is that they have failed to score a single goal in this term. Antonio-Mirko Colak and Mario Vrancic have been Darmstadt’s most prolific players in front of goal so far this season, as the pair bagged eight goals and two assists between them.

Darmstadt Team News

Jerome Gondorf, Mario Vrancic, Terrence Boyd and Dominik Stroh-Engel are all doubts, but Peter Niemeyer is out through injury.

Hertha Berlin Preview

Hertha Berlin, on the other hand, have been unrecognisable in this second half of the campaign, as they have only won four of their 17 competitive fixtures after their return from the winter break. The Berliners enter the fray on the back of two consecutive defeats at the hands of Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig, conceding two goals in each of these. Despite this poor run of form, Hertha still find themselves in 6th spot in the Bundesliga table with 46 points under their belts after 32 rounds, just one point of the 5th-placed Freiburg. Hertha Berlin have struggled to find the back of the net the entire campaign as they only managed 39 goals in 32 rounds, which is the worst attacking record in the top ten. Despite this negative record, Vedad Ibisevic is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 12 goals under his belt, while Salomon Kalou has helped the team with six goals and four assists in his 24 league appearances. Hertha should feel confident ahead of this clash as they already beat Darmstadt 2-0 in the reverse fixture, and they picked up victories in both of their visits to the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollfenalltor.
