Darmstadt vs Borussia Moenchengladbach Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Darmstadt and Borussia Moenchengladbach will be facing each other at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor on Saturday afternoon, with both teams looking to put their Bundesliga campaign back on track. Darmstadt were beaten 2-0 on the road at Hertha Berlin in the middle of December 2016 in a game in which they failed to deliver a single shot on target. Borussia Monchengladbach also suffered a defeat last time out in the Bundesliga, losing 1-2 at home at the hands of Wolfsburg. Thorgan Hazard levelled the game for Andre Schubert’s men soon after the break, but they conceded another goal five minutes later and were unable to come back into the game. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Darmstadt Preview

Darmstadt have been the worst team in the Bundesliga in the first part of the season, having won just two of their opening 16 league fixtures. This is the main reason for Norbert Meier’s departure from the club in early December. He was replaced by former Germany International Torsten Frings, who has never managed a club before. Frings has a difficult job here, as Darmstadt are rock bottom of the league table with just 8 points to their name after 16 rounds, nine points behind safety. Darmstadt enter the fray on the back of an eight-game losing streak in the Bundesliga, which includes a 2-0 defeat on the road at Hertha Berlin last time out. Scoring goals has definitely been Darmstadt’s biggest problem throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as they hold the worst offensive record in the division with just 11 goals scored in 16 league fixtures. Darmstadt have only scored once in their last six games in the Bundesliga. Their top scorer is Antonio-Mirko Colak, who is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with just 3 goals under his belt in his 12 league appearances. On home soil, Darmstadt were on a four-game unbeaten streak in the opening four league fixtures, but they are now on a four-game losing run.

Borussia Moenchengladbach Preview

Meanwhile, Borussia Moenchengladbach also changed their coach towards the end of 2016, as Dieter Hecking replaced Andre Schubert. The latter was relieved of his duties by Wolfsburg in October, but he was appointed by the Foals just before Christmas with the target to take them out from the relegation zone. M’Gladbach currently stand in 14th position in the league table tied on 16 points with Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen. Similar to their Saturday’s opponents, Borussia Monechengladbach also struggled to find the back of the net throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as they only managed 15 goals in 16 league fixtures. Thorgan Hazard has been Borussia Moenchengladbach’s most dangerous player in front of goal this season, as the 23-year-old midfielder is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 4 goals in his 13 league appearances. Their away form has also been a problem, as M’Gladbach have only picked up just one point from their seven away league fixtures while scoring just three goals in the process. The good news is that Borussia Moenchengladbach have won the last two meetings with Darmstadt, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It’s obvious that Borussia Moenchengladbach have the stronger squad in this one, but they weren’t convincing in the first part of this campaign. However, I’m backing them to get back to winning ways in this one and to secure their first away victory of the season.
