Darmstadt vs Bayer Leverkusen Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to put their Bundesliga campaign back on track when they travel to the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Böllenfalltor to take on Darmstadt on Wednesday night. Darmstadt were thrashed 4-0 on the road at RB Leipzig at the weekend, although they conceded three of those goals in the last 20 minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen threw away a two-goal lead to secure only a 3-3 home draw against Wolfsburg. Karim Bellarabi gave Bayer Leverkusen the lead just before the break, while Kevin Volland made it 2-0 just after the hour mark. Wolfsburg fought back from behind as Mario Gomez netted a hat-trick within the space of seven minutes, but Kai Havertz scored a late equaliser for Leverkusen, and both sides had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Despite the fact they have struggled the entire Bundesliga campaign, Darmstadt looked a bit better in front of their own fans recently, having won two of their last three home league fixtures. Leverkusen are huge favourites to win here, but their recent away form has been a complete mixed bag. They should be able to grab all three points here as Darmstadt have minimal chances of surviving in this Bundesliga campaign, but I’m also fancying them to get on the scoresheet.

Both teams to score - Yes at 4/5

Bayer Leverkusen to win at 4/6

Darmstadt Preview

Darmstadt’s recent form in the Bundesliga reads five defeats and one victory in their last six games, and head into this clash on the back of a two-game losing streak without scoring a single goal in the process. They are rock bottom of the Bundesliga table, already 14 points behind safety, which means they are already relegated into the 2.Bundesliga. Theoretically, they still have chances to secure their Bundesliga status, but they need to win the remaining eight league games, and this task looks impossible. They had problems at both ends of the pitch throughout this Bundesliga campaign, but their inefficient attack has been the main issue. They have only scored 17 goals in 26 league outings, which is by far the worst attacking record in the division. Their topscorer is Antonio-Mirko Colak with just four goals under his belt in his 20 league appearances. Darmstadt can count on their recent home form ahead of this clash as they have only lost two of their last six home fixtures across all competitions while winning three in the process. Head-to-head, Darmstadt have lost the last two meetings with Bayer Leverkusen, including a 3-2 away loss in the reverse fixture.

Bayer Leverkusen Preview

On the other hand, Bayer Leverkusen have also endured a disappointing run of form of late, having lost four and drawn three of their last seven games across all competitions. Last weekend, they had a 2-0 lead against Wolfsburg, but eventually, they were lucky to secure a 3-3 draw thanks to a late equaliser from Kai Havertz. Despite the fact they are winless in five league outings, Lever still sit in a comfortable 11th position in the Bundesliga table tied on 32 points with the 12th-placed Werder Bremen, just three points clear of the bottom three. Leverkusen managed a decent tally of 40 goals in 26 rounds so far this season, but they really struggled at the other end of the field. Lever have conceded 43 goals this term, which is one of the worst defensive records in the division. Their recent away from has also been an issue, as Bayer Leverkusen have only won once in their last seven away games across all competitions. The good news is that Lever picked up a 1-2 victory at Darmstadt in their most recent visit to the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Böllenfalltor. A player to watch for Bayer Leverkusen is Chicharito, as the Mexican striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 10 goals in his 23 league appearances.
