Darmstadt vs Augsburg Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Darmstadt and FC Augsburg will square off at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor on Saturday afternoon, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga. Darmstadt were beaten 2-0 on the road at Hoffenheim last time out in the Bundesliga, with Thorsten Frings’ men conceding both goals in the second half. Meanwhile, FC Augsburg lost 1-3 at home at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen, with their consolation goal being scored by Dominik Kohr. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m not expecting a high-scoring affair here as both sides have struggled to find the back of the net throughout this Bundesliga campaign. These two teams bagged just 33 goals between them this season, and both scored just once in their most recent two league fixtures. Although, Augsburg looked decent on the road this season, so I’m backing them to snatch at least one point in this one.

Darmstadt Preview

Darmstadt’s awful start of the second half of this Bundesliga campaign continued last weekend as they were beaten 2-0 away at Hoffenheim. Their sole triumph in their five league outings after the winter break was a shocking 2-1 home win over Borussia Dortmund a fortnight ago. Darmstadt sit rock bottom of the table with just 12 points to their name after 21 rounds, already eight points behind safety. Darmstadt have really struggled to find the back of the net throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as they hold the worst offensive record in the division with just 14 goals scored in 21 league fixtures. Antonio-Mirko Colak has been Darmstadt’s most in-form player in front of goal this season, as he is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 4 goals in his 17 league appearances. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been another major issue, as Darmstadt have one of the most leakiest defences in the division. On home soil, Darmstadt were on a six-game winless streak in the Bundesliga prior to their 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in their most recent home league fixture. Head-to-head, Darmstadt are winless in their last two meetings with Augsburg in the Bundesliga, registering one draw and one defeat in this term.

FC Augsburg Preview

Augsburg, on the flip side, have been up and down in this early part of the new year, having won two and lost three of their five league fixtures after the winter break. Despite their inconsistent Bundesliga campaign, Augsburg still sit in a comfortable 13th spot in the standings with 24 points to their name after 21 rounds, five points clear off the drop zone. Similar to their Saturday’s opponents, Augsburg have also struggled to find the back of the net throughout the season, having scored just 19 goals in 21 league outings. They have endured a mixed run of form on the road since the start of this campaign, but still managed to collect 12 points from their ten league trips. They were unbeaten in two away games in the Bundesliga prior to their 2-0 defeat on the road at Mainz 05 in their most recent league trip. The good news is that Augsburg are undefeated in their last two meetings with Darmstadt in the Bundesliga, including a narrow 1-0 home win in the reverse fixture. Halil Altintop and Dong-Won Ji have scored three goals each so far this season, while Raul Bobadilla has helped the team with two goals and two assists in his ten league appearances.

FC Augsburg Preview

Jonathan Schmid, Caiuby Francisco Da Silva, Raul Bobadilla, Konstantinos Stafylidis and Alfred Finnbogason are all doubts, but Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker is out through an ankle injury. The good news is that Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Jan Moravek are both back in training.
