Cyprus vs Bosnia and Herzegovina Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Bosnia & Herzegovina will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifying to five games when they travel to the Neo GSP Stadium in Nicosia to take on Cyprus on Thursday night. Cyprus only managed a 1-2 victory on the road at Gibraltar last time out, with Pieros Sotiriou scoring the winner with just three minutes to go. Meanwhile, Bosnia & Herzegovina have been held to a nil-nil home draw by Greece two months ago, despite the fact that they had a better ball possession and six shots on target. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Bosnia & Herzegovina should be able to grab all three points here as they definitely have more quality within their squad than Cyprus. Furthermore, they beat Cyprus both home and away in the last two meetings, scoring five goals and conceding none in this term. In addition, Cyprus have only won three of the last 15 home games across all competitions, while Bosnia won six of their last ten away games.

Cyprus Preview

Cyprus kicked off this World Cup qualifying campaign in a negative manner, losing back-to-back defeats at the hands of Belgium, Greece and Bosnia & Herzegovina, conceding seven goals and scoring none in the process. However, they managed to pick seven points from their most recent three qualifiers after back-to-back wins over Gibraltar along with a nil-nil home draw against Estonia. This leaves the Cypriots in 4th spot in the group H table, four points behind their Thursday’s opponents. Cyprus’s recent form has seen them lose just once in five games across all competitions, with that defeat coming at the hands of a Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal earlier in June in a friendly fixture. At home, Cyprus have only won three of their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions, but their recent home form has been decent as they come into this tie on the back of a three-game unbeaten run. They have scored three goals in two of their last three home fixtures across all competitions, but prior to that, they have failed to score in eight of twelve games. Pieros Sotiriou is definitely a player to watch here as he is Cyprus’ topscorer throughout this qualifying campaign with two goals in four appearances. The 24-year-old striker has enjoyed an amazing season for APOEL last term, scoring 21 goals in 32 league appearances. Furthermore, he has already scored two goals in seven appearances for his new club FC Copenhagen.

Cyprus Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Cyprus ahead of this tie.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Preview

On the flip side, Bosnia & Herzegovina narrowly missed out on Euro 2016 last summer following a 3-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of the Republic of Ireland in the play-offs. However, the Bosnians looked much better throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, losing only to Belgium in their six group games. They managed to put their 4-0 defeat against the Belgians behind them and come into this tie on the back of a five-game undefeated streak across all competitions. Bosnia have registered back-to-back wins over Cyprus and Gibraltar along with two draws against Greece. The positive thing is that the Bosnians have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four group fixtures. They currently sit third in the standings, just one point behind the second-placed Greece. The Bosnians are the group’s second goalscorers with 13 goals under their belts after six rounds. Edin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic have both enjoyed a decent qualifying campaign, scoring three goals each. Away from home, Bosnia have only lost three of the last ten away games across all competitions, but the bad news is that they are winless in the last two away qualifiers, scoring just once in the process. Head-to-head, Bosnia & Herzegovina have won the last two meetings with Cyprus across all competitions, including a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Team News

There were some rumours about a bad relationship between Muhamed Besic and coach Bazdarevic, but it seems that the reports were not true. Ibisevic, Dzeko and Lulic should lead the attacking line once again, with Pjanic supporting them from midfield.
