CSKA Moscow vs AEK Athens Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

AEK Athens will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit when they travel to the VEB Arena to take on CSKA Moscow on Wednesday afternoon for the second leg of their Champions League third round qualifying tie. CSKA Moscow come into this tie on the back of a comfortable 2-0 home win over SKA Khabarovsk in the Russian Premier League at the weekend thanks to two first half goals from Aleksandr Golovin and Bibras Natcho. Meanwhile, AEK’s most recent fixture was their 0-2 home loss at the hands of CSKA last week, conceding one goal in each half. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m expecting another comfortable win for CSKA Moscow on Wednesday afternoon as they definitely have more quality within their ranks than AEK. Furthermore, CSKA have already played four competitive fixtures so far this season while AEK have only played one. I’m also backing CSKA to keep a clean sheet as they have only conceded nine goals in their last 15 home games across all competitions.

CSKA Moscow to win and under 2.5 goals at 8/5

CSKA Moscow Clean Sheet - Yes at 10/11

CSKA Moscow have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played

CSKA Moscow are undefeated in all of their last 2 games against AEK Athens

AEK Athens have conceeded only 3 goals in their last 2 games against CSKA Moscow

CSKA Moscow Preview

CSKA Moscow have enjoyed a decent start to their 2017/18 campaign, winning three of their four competitive fixtures. Their sole defeat in this term came at the hands of city rivals Lokomotiv Moscow in the second round of the Premier League season, but they bounced back with two consecutive 2-0 wins over AEK Athens in the Champions League play-offs and SKA Khabarovsk in the Premier League at the weekend. The Russians looked solid in front of goal during this run, scoring at least two goals in three of their four games across all competitions. CSKA currently sit in 5th in the Russian Premier League table tied on six points with the 6th-placed Ufa, just three points off the current leaders Zenit Petersburg. CSKA can count on their home form over the past five months as they only lost twice in their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. In addition, CSKA have scored at least two goals in ten of those games while keeping eleven clean sheets. The Russians are winless in their last five home games in the Champions League, but they draw 1-1 against strong teams in the shape of Manchester United, Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen in this term.

CSKA Moscow Team News

CSKA Moscow have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this tie.

AEK Athens Preview

Meanwhile, AEK Athens were on a five-game unbeaten streak across all competitions prior to their 0-2 home loss at the hands of CSKA Moscow last week. AEK had the better ball possession and the most goal attempts last week, but unfortunately, they were unable to secure a positive result. They are now going to Moscow to overturn the deficit, but their away record in the Champions League over the past years has been awful. However, they have enjoyed a decent run of form on the road over the past six months, losing just twice in their last 15 competitive away fixtures. AEK haven’t been very active throughout this summer transfer window as they only brought Georgios Giakoumakis and Uros Cosic for a total fee of €800,000. The last time when AEK managed to reach the third qualifying round was in 2006 when they beat Hearts 5-1 to qualify for the group stage. The former Portugal International Hugo Almeida is definitely their most known player, although he has only scored four goals in 20 appearances in the Greek Super League last season.

AEK Athens Team News

Anastasios Bakasetas, Vasilios Barkas and Konstantinos Lambropoulos are all missing through injury ahead of this trip.
